Rush Limbaugh: Clinton/Cisneros Cover-Up Fails
RushLimbaugh.com ^ | 5/5/05 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 05/05/2005 6:02:29 PM PDT by wagglebee

This goes back maybe two weeks ago. There was an attempt in a piece of Senate legislation to shelve forever a scandal involving the IRS and Henry Cisneros and a number of other things. Well, enough attention was called to this that it has failed, the effort to cover it up has failed. (story) "A Senate rider inserted in an emergency appropriations bill in the dead of the night, which would close a rare window into political foul play at the Internal Revenue Service, was quietly removed Tuesday in Senate-House negotiations. That offers full disclosure of a major scandal that has been percolating for a decade. The rider would have de-funded the investigation begun in 1995 of then-Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros by Independent Counsel David Barrett. The amendment was sponsored by three highly influential Democrats, purportedly to stop leakage of federal money in a run-on program and end persecution of a no-longer-prominent Democratic politician. In fact, Barrett's investigation is the first independent probe, with subpoena power, of the IRS... The report, described as 400 pages long with over 2,000 footnotes, is sealed by court order. So are Barrett's lips. But enough has leaked from sources familiar with its content to suggest political dynamite. Sources indicate an IRS whistle-blower contends the tax fraud investigation was transferred from a regional office to Washington, where the IRS and the Justice Department suffocated it. That raises the question of whether Cisneros, then a rising Democratic star, was improperly protected by Clinton administration officials." By the way, this might also involve Mrs. Clinton. "The investigation has been so protracted because of delaying motions by the Williams & Connolly firm, attorneys for Bill and Hillary Clinton. These lawyers, headed by David Kendall, are described as poring over the sealed Barrett report, according to sources, because clients are named."

This is a report that could really damage ten or so, maybe even more, members of the Clinton administration. We talked about this a couple weeks ago. A couple Democrats, including John Kerry, were trying to squelch this by defunding it, by putting it in another piece of Senate legislation. The word leaked out that this was happening, Tony Snow wrote a column about it, we talked about it on this program, enough attention was brought to bear, the effort to bury this report and to defund it has failed. Now, it's still under seal, but the likelihood is there will be a report made public on this at some point and that means that there are people cowering in fear and quivering in the corners even as we speak. This is a real under-the-cover effort here, folks, to try to get this investigation quashed, or the report quashed, and they came close. They came very, very, very close to doing this. That, too, I predict is going to be a story, how they almost got this investigation totally quashed, defunded, and therefore buried.

I want to clarify one thing. Senator Kennedy was not part of the Democrat effort to quash the bill. It was Senator Byron Dorgan. "Sen. Byron Dorgan, Senate Democratic Policy Committee chairman, in the middle of a long floor speech on April 5, gave notice he would try to amend the emergency money bill 'to shut off the funding' for Barrett. Dorgan was the amendment's principal sponsor. Co-sponsors were Sen. Richard Durbin, the minority whip, and Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 nominee for president." So it was Dorgan, Durbin, and Kerry that attempted to get this investigation buried.

Hopefully, Rush will keep pounding away at this, so it doesn't go away.

Why did a court seal the report and put a gag order on the investigator?

Clinton pardoned him before leaving office; was that for something else?

What is Henry doing these days, anyone know?

"I want to clarify one thing. Senator Kennedy was not part of the Democrat effort to quash the bill."

. . .there is a war going on here. . .

As for the scandal. . .may the truth fly. . .but still, are there 'socks to stuff' here. . .pants? Where IS Sandy Berger?

Assume all vulnerable here; have their life insurance premiums paid up.

Cisneros pardon in 2001 was for lying to the FBI about payments to a former mistress.

As for what he is doing now, hopefully he is trying to figure out a way to testify against the Klintoons and not wind up a victim of the Arkansas Mafia.

Thanks for the info, wagglebee; this will indeed be interesting to watch. Oh, to see one former Clinton pal pay a price for his misdeeds and if Hillary can be connected to it, it's a bonus.

Personally, I'm hoping for the day when a Clintonista doesn't have to pay the price (be it in prison or an "unfortunate" case of Arkancide) for his crimes. I want to see one of them be given immunity and bring down Hitlery and the Bent One.

The clintoons always seem to have someone else do their dirty work.

Cisneros Probe Found Clinton IRS Abuse

Barrett's report is also said to allege that Justice Department officials snuffed out a tax case against Cisneros.

Why did a court seal the report and put a gag order on the investigator?

It is my understanding that when an independent counsel drafts a report, it has to be run by anyone who is named in the report and they are allowed to make comments. It is also my understanding that the lawyers for those named in this report have put up about 190 motions in the courts to keep the report from being made public.

There has to be some hot stuff in this one.

The Kennedy wing is opposed to the Clinton wing. Ted would be only too happy to see Hillary humiliated.

I'm so glad the mainstream press has been keeping on top of this important story about corruption and abuse of power in the highest places.

As much as I hope this builds and goes somewhere UP the chain at the clinton whitehouse.....after 8 years of democrats sticking together and refusing to talk, and republicans without the stones to put people in jail , I well ...don't even have the heart to hope.

I really think the Clintons have the goods on to many conservatives thru those fbi files. And the only way they are going to get info that sticks .....is to put everyone in jail all the way up the ladder. They have to know they aren't getting a deal without spilling their guts.

I'm sure that any day now "60 Minute" will produce a "memo" proving that Clinton wanted to have Cisneros prosecuted, but Ken Starr and the Republicans wouldn't allow it!

How interesting since Cisneros' current wife just wrapped him on the head with a hammer a day or two ago for another "mistress" deal and now is in divorce mode.

I think truth is valuable so I hope that she has some choice things to contribute on subject.

Also makes me wonder whether this could be the reason Billy C has become a Bush adoptee these days.

Wrong Cisneros. Carlos Cisneros was the guy that was hammered. Henry is the Clinton "associate".

"The only way they are going to get info that sticks is to put everyone in jail all the way up the ladder"

Is there a PROBLEM with THIS SCENARIO? I would LOVE to see them ALL rot in jail...if justice weren't blinded by power and bribery, alot of them would already have served HARD TIME by now!

Murrymom, is there really any good reason to stick with the 100% corrupt RATS?
