Minutemen declare vigil a success ~~ California Governer agrees....Mexico upset ...
The Orange County Register ^ | Tuesday, May 3, 2005 | DANIEL B. WOOD THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR

SIERRA VISTA, ARIZ. – Retired pilot Joe McCutchen spent three weeks and $6,000 and put 4,600 miles on his car driving round-trip from Fort Smith, Ark., to the Arizona border. In between, he spent 14 days in a folding chair, buffeted by windstorms, face-cutting sand, freezing cold and scorching sun. He says he’ll be back to do it again in October.

“The terrain and weather were utterly brutal,” says McCutchen, who spent eight hours a day manning lookout posts. “I have a new sense of compassion for the illegals who are being exploited by both countries ... and the Border Patrol that is not being given what it needs to do the job properly.”

The volunteer Minuteman Project has finished its month-long vigil on a 20-mile strip of the Arizona-Mexico border, asserting success in its twofold mission of highlighting the issue of illegal immigration in the United States and showing that the border could be effectively secured with proper manpower.

In the end, the civilian patrols proved not to be the disruption that many critics had predicted – even the Border Patrol, which had been skeptical, said there were few mishaps between illegal immigrants and the citizen volunteers.

************************************************snip*******************************

Still, to those on both sides of the issue, the Minuteman Project’s initiative in Arizona came off largely without incident. Both the U.S. Border Patrol, which was concerned that volunteer citizens would create problems for agents, and the ACLU, which worried that conflicts would ensue in encounters with illegal immigrants, now say the activists weren’t overly intrusive.

******************************snip******************************

Early reports in U.S. media and continued coverage by Mexican media created the wide impression that gun-toting vigilantes would be using physical force.

"The Register" is the only other paper in the Los Angeles area. It is mostly Orange County which is 20 miles or more east of LA.
This paper is the only one I would buy.
They actually print news and do reporting compared to the LA Times which has become left wing propaganda and lots of made up stories.

The Register grows, the LA Times dies.

"There won problem?" What does that mean? Or... should we read "they're one problem?"

I feel sorry for the residents of the area covered by the Minute Man Project during April. Now they have to return to all the hassles wrought by the illegals; the trash; the noise; the human waste; the fear in the night; the loss of privacy and security caused by a nearly continuous parade of border runners; and the effrontery of lawbreakers openly defying the law.

By the way, this story also appeared in the Christian Science Monitor and is posted here. Or use "slashdot" for both user name and password at the O.C. Register link, per Bug Me Not.

Ernest_at_the_Beach posting from the OC Register! Aye, there's been some water passed under the keel since last I've seen these two, one with the other!

Yes, there for awhile all they were was a reprint service for the NY Times and the AP...I go to those two sources so you can post a complete article.
