Pat Robertson:No Muslim judges. Islamic leaders demand apologyfor 'hate-filled remarks'
WorldNetDaily ^ | 05-03-05

Evangelist Pat Robertson is in trouble with U.S. Islamic organizations for saying Muslims should not serve in the president's Cabinet or as judges.

Pat Robertson

In an appearance on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" Sunday, Robertson, who ran for president in 1988, said if were elected he would not appoint Muslims to his Cabinet and that he was not in favor of Muslims serving as judges.

"They have said in the Quran there's a war against all the infidels," Robertson said. "Do you want somebody like that sitting as a judge? I wouldn't."

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations yesterday called on "mainstream political and religious leaders" to repudiate the "hate-filled remarks."

"This type of hate-filled rhetoric deserves repudiation from all who respect America's long-standing tradition of pluralism," said Rabiah Ahmed, CAIR's communication coordinator.

Ahmed said many Muslims already serve with distinction in many levels of government, including judgeships at the state and local level.

Arsalan Iftikhar, CAIR's national legal director, said Robertson "has taken his far-right-wing rhetoric to absurd levels."

"He is trying to perpetuate this notion that Islam is a monolithic entity inherently at odds with modernity and democracy," Iftikhar said. "That is absolutely false. ... American Muslims have long been contributing members of American society.

Iftikhar added: "And I guarantee to Mr. Robertson that Muslims will one day become part of the federal bench -- whether or not he likes it."

Muslims were particularly outraged by a 2002 appearance on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" program in which Robertson said about Islam's prophet, Muhammad: "This man was an absolute wild-eyed fanatic. He was a robber and a brigand. And to say that these terrorists distort Islam, they're carrying out Islam. ... I mean, this man (Muhammad) was a killer. And to think that this is a peaceful religion is fraudulent."

Robertson also called Islam "a monumental scam" and claimed the Quran "is strictly a theft of Jewish theology."

It's amusing that Ahmed's comment applies better to the noted portion of the Quran than to Robertson's remark.

World Net Daily needs to get a strong editor to filter the nonsense.

He didn't say "Muslims should not serve in the president's Cabinet."

He said he wouldn't appoint them to his Cabinet if he were President. There's a vast difference. Bugs me that WND and other conservative news sites often spin the news as much as the left-wing news outfits do.

Just report the news and let people make up their own minds.

End of rant.

The koran recognizes three classes of people under the law. Muslims, Jews/Christians (still people of "the book"), and "everybody else". The left is afraid of relgious zealots (read "Christians") sitting in the black robe but have no problems with muslim judges.

We already know that the left is quite satisfied to permite Supreme Court rulings based in other nations' laws rather than our Constitution.

Slippery slope. I want equal protection under the law. Not 3 classes of individual.

Intellectually one would want to disagree with Pat, that's he's discriminating on religious grounds, something we're not supposed to do in the U.S. But pragmatically speaking, he's right on the money.

"He is trying to perpetuate this notion that Islam is a monolithic entity inherently at odds with modernity and democracy," Iftikhar said.

And where would he and many other like-minded Americans get that silly idea from??

"That is absolutely false. ... American Muslims have long been contributing members of American society."

Hmmmm, I'm having a hard time coming up with an example. Anybody elese?

Pat's been running radio stations in Muslim countries since the 70's and 80's. He was sounding the warnings on Islamofacism when people viewed the mideast as just a place on a map, where we got some oil from.

Every week he asked prayer for Christian converts being tormented and tortured, and for the safety of people running the stations.

He knows more about what we are dealing with than 90% of the country. When people criticize him on this area, they don't know what they are talking about. He does.

What are you trying to imply by posting this picture? These guys are probably just very sensitive to the sun thus the head covers and they are obviously wearing rehydration gear around their middles--sort of like CamelBaks only these are placed around the front. I don't see a problem.

As strong a Christian as Pat is, I'd be surprised if he'd even appoint a Jewish judge over any Christian.

Here is an article from the 700 club website. I might as well post it here as give it it's own post, because I don't know how old it is. But it is an important read.

Terror in Africa: Radical Islam in Nigeria
By George Thomas
CBN News Senior Reporter

CBN.com – (CBN News) -- YELWA, NIGERIA – In a corner of Africa's most populated country, radical Muslims are trying to create the first Taliban-style nation on the continent.

A group calling themselves al-Sunnah Wal Jama'ah, an Arabic name meaning "Followers of Mohammed's Teachings", have carried out a series of deadly attacks in the Nigerian states of Yobe and Borno in the last 12 months.

John Pike, a security analyst in Washington, D.C, said that the “armed uprising, which appears to be if not linked to al Qaeda, is certainly inspired by something like al Qaeda."

In fact the group draws inspiration from the former Taliban rulers of Afghanistan, and from the terror master himself Osama Bin Laden, who has urged his followers to turn Nigeria into an outpost for radical Islam.

And not only is Al Sunna Wal Jamma trying to Talibanize Nigeria, it is also offering the full menu of Taliban-style justice: chopping off a hand for theft, stoning adulterers, caning for drinking alcohol, and serving up death for anyone who leaves Islam.

From Sudan to Kenya to Tanzania to here in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, Islamists are pushing to either expand or implement Sharia law."

Nigeria is almost there. To date, 12 of 36 states have adopted Sharia law. Dozens of people are in jail waiting to be either stoned to death, have their hands chopped off, or be flogged.

According to press reports, 250 anti-Sharia activities are currently under review by Islamic judges - judges who believe that Sharia should replace Nigeria's secular constitution.

Judge San Abdullahi Tofa, of the Sharia Commission on Kano, said “Sharia is superior because Sharia is guided by a divine constitution, which is the holy Koran, so the holy Koran is superior to the Nigerian constitution."

Africa watchers say the U.S. cannot afford to confront a Taliban-type movement in Nigeria. Nigeria is Africa's leading oil producer. It is also one of the top sources for oil for the United States.

But for Islamists, gaining control of this key U.S. ally in Africa has become a top objective.

Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zak Zaki is Nigeria's most radical Muslim leader. His view is that this land belongs to the Muslims, even though the country is evenly split between Christians in the South and Muslims in the North. When asked if he would like to see Nigeria become an Islamic state, Zaki said “well, it is an Islamic state already!”

Caught in the path of the Islamist agenda some of the 66 million Nigerian Christians, who are increasingly coming under fire for their faith.

Vabone Lumwa is a Christian living in Nigeria’s plateau state. He and a few of his Christian friends were working on a farm when 400 heavily-armed Muslims, claiming to be agents of Bin Laden, launched an attack last summer on the city of Yelwa.

Lumwa said that “first they tried to hit me with a machete on my neck. When they realized that did not kill me they tried to choke me by sticking a knife in my throat. When the men realized that did not kill me either, they went for my eyes.”

His doctor explains what happened next: “They thrust a sharp object into his eyes and gorged his eyes out. And as you can see his eye ball has completely collapsed. There's nothing in the other eye either, he is blinded for life.”

Vabone's friend, in the next bed over, is still recovering from his injuries. The doctor said that they slit his trachea open with a sword. And though it “is gradually healing… he is still leaking air from here. His hands were also struck with the sword and so too his neck and the side of his face.”

Months after the attack, the towns and villages in and around Yelwa are still empty. Burned cars and shops left as a reminder of that day's bloody attack. Reports say 80 percent of the homes in Yelwa were also destroyed.

CBN News was given an armed escort around this city to take a look at what happened here several months ago. The authorities tell us that today in this city there are many mass graves. Those graves filled with Christians.

Abel Gobum, a pastor in Yelwa, pointed at one of those mass graves. He said “they were slaughtered inside the church...This is where the children, because some of the children were in the church too when they were slaughtered, they are also buried here. This is their own sight.” Gobum added that there were about 20 children killed.

They were all praying in the church when the militants attacked that summer morning. According to eyewitnesses, the Muslim men ordered the Christians to lie face down on the floor and then started to hack them to death with swords and machetes. The pastor of the church was also murdered.

For years, the violence in Nigeria has been one-sided: Muslims against Christians. This time, however, the Christians in Yelwa decided to respond by attacking and killing hundreds of Muslims.

Saido Dogo of the Christian Association of Nigeria, said “the Christians have been at the receiving end but it is reaching a stage that the Christians are saying enough is enough we have no other nation but Nigeria.”

More than one thousand people were killed in Yelwa and 200 thousand others left homeless. Dozens of churches and mosques were destroyed. Some of those who fled Yelwa have began returning only to find misery awaiting them.

One Christian survivor, Steve Bulong said that he “lost everything. They destroyed my crops, burned down my house. I feel very angry about what happened. Look around you, this is what I have left-- absolutely nothing.”

Others are still too scared to return. So for now, camps like this one, on the outskirts of Yelwa, are home to thousands of displaced Muslims and Christians.

More than 10,000 have died in religious violence since Sharia law was first introduced in 1999.

Shortly after the attacks by Al Sunna Wal Jamma, Nigerian troops quickly moved in and crushed the uprising in the northeast. Several of the group's members were killed and dozens more arrested.

But Nigerian authorities here fear a large network of its terror cells may still be operating in the region and elsewhere - making the possibility of Nigeria emerging as the next Afghanistan and a haven for the future generation of terrorists very real.

Pat has had close relations with devout Jews for years. Many of the members of his inner circle are Jews. I remember an interview when he was running for president when he said he would have no problem appointing religious Jews for positions, but would have one with atheists.

He is a strong supporter of Israel. Check out this link from his website. http://www.700club.com/special/supportisrael2.asp
