WMD Searcher Finds Secret Saddam Tapes

Iraq Survey Group Chief Charles Duelfer announced Tuesday that his team had uncovered "a large collection" of tape recordings of Saddam Hussein as he chaired top secret military meetings - evidence that could prove once and for all whether the Iraqi dictator had weapons of mass destruction when the U.S. attacked in March 2003.

In an addendum to his WMD report that was released this week, Duelfer revealed:

"A substantial effort continues to examine the documents that have been recovered from the former Regime. . . . For example, a large collection of audiotapes from Revolutionary Command Council meetings chaired by Saddam is being translated and reviewed. These will provide great insight into the decision making of the former Regime on a range of key subjects."

While Duelfer was cautious about how much light the Saddam tapes will shed on Iraq's unconventional weapons, he said the recordings "may provide more texture and details of particular programs and decisions. There may also be more specifics concerning who and how the programs were conducted, including support from outside Iraq."

Contrary to media reports, the top weapons searcher said he still hadn't concluded that Saddam had no WMDs when the war began, explaining:

If the MSM has anything to do with this...we'll never know what those tapes reveal.

Fodder for the media.

IMO, we're not going to find out the whole story about
Saddam's plans for WMD until after the trial is over.
To release info before that time would be opening up
charges of "evidence planting" by the U.S.
Al Jazeera would have a field day!

A great coup for our intelligence services. The info on these tapes will prove to be very enlightening I'm sure.

Oh yea... set on your hands till the U.N or all the other people have had time to shred documents and lawyer up. I am so tired of people waiting to do ANYTHING.

It would be nice if they found out ANYTHING we "the public" would get told about it. Grrrr....

How could they have possibly made a definitive statement that there were no WMDs if they haven't reviewed ALL the documents and evidence?

It would be great if Saddam had a personal collection of videos showing political opponents with panties on their heads, stacked into naked pyramids.

But somehow I doubt it. It'd probably be prisoners into wood chippers and being fed alive to dogs.

Hey Carl,

Can you provide a link to the new report?

I'm not knocking you but Newsmax gets no "creds" when talking to liberals and I want to smack them upside the head with this.

Sure - shoulda put the URL in my report. This comes from a note Duelfer wrote at the end of the addendum. The URL for that note is:

It has chapped my hide for some time now that, although the WMD search is still on, the MSM long ago concluded that "there are / were no WMDs." The truth is, we've barely scratched the surface in terms of searching for in situ evidence, and, in terms of trying to find evidence of things moved into Syria or airlifted to any number of places, almost nothing has apparently been done. One final note - the death of Dr. David Kelley was a major blow to the hope of uncovering bio war evidence. He was one of few A players - one of maybe 2 or 3 people who had both personally uncovered Russian / Soviet covert and illegal programs, and, were also experts in Iraqi programs.

We can't post Independent articles at FR, but I thought you might find this interesting. Snip:

The American who led the hunt for Iraq's missing weapons of mass destruction has revealed that the investigation was cut short after he was targeted by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the militant leader in an attack that left two people dead. The head of the Iraq Survey Group, Charles Duelfer, has reported that his investigation into the possible transfer of WMD to Syria had been wound up because of the "declining security situation".

Well, I would say this is the best example yet of the MSM misrepresenting a story----

The only thing I heard that even remotely indicated that WMDS were totally made up in Bush's mind, was that Duelfer indicated that the scientists are still alive and still have the memories of how to make up the chemical and biological weapons at a moments notice---I was angry that this part of the report hadn't gotten more "play", BUT

after reading this article I would say that the MSM buying, listening public should sue the MSM for purposly misrepresenting a news story!!!

But to leak their existance and potential for incriminating others might produce a virtual choir or retributive singers.
