Correction: Kay Hutchison currently speaking, not John Cornyn.

"John Cornyn on deck"

I hope he will be plain-spoken and show some of his Texas backbone. I very much respect him (more than Kay Bailey Hutchison), and I'm delighted he's one of our senators.

I'd rather the Republicans were in the minority and fighting like hell, than in the majority and grabbing their ankles :(

I hope our guys in the Senate put a stop to this defeatest crap soon.

Welcome indeed.
Last night the majority leader said there would be nominations on the floor for votes this week. He did not say 'judicial' nominations, though. I still don't know when the votes will be.

I am sure you do wish they were in the minority -- sign on leading up to the election in 2004!

What do you think our Senators have been doing in Committee and everywhere else since coming into office in January? Why don't you talk one on one with them and see what they have been fighting instead of listening and reading the media. Might open your eyes although with your comment I am not so sure! No Republican I know would ever mention they rather have the Republicans in the minority which would equal no chance of getting any judges through.

Thanks for your comments -- guess you can be written down as another one of the Class of 2004 "suspect conservative" sign-ons!

If no DEM objects to taking the vote, the so-called "nuclear" trigger won't be pulled. Given the subject of the present debate, I assume a vote on Priscilla Owen is scheduled for the near future.

Kay Hutchison has announced her support for a rule change if democrats continue to block a vote.

I noticed that the Senate calendar includes voting on Trade Representative nominee(s) - showed on C-SPAN overlay.

Senate leadership is careful about disclosing its calendar. The only clear expression I have heard regarding timing of vote on judicial nominees is "by Memorial Day." But I do note that GOP Senator statements that the judicial approval process would be firmly addressed in Februrary 2005 did not come to pass on that schedule.

Patty Murry going on about the value of debate and dissention. She seems to be excusing the failure of the Senate to vote on a nominee.

She is generally asserting that a minority of Senators have the right to deny approval, i.e., that a supermajority is necessary to approve a nominee.

If her speech is any indication, the DEMs are inclined to avoid voting on some of the judicial nominees.

Apparently Murray's position is that not allowing the minority to block judges is a disenfranchisement. YOU GUYS LOST, PATTY!
