Jim Talent of Missouri currently speaking. John Cornyn on deck. Fifteen minutes remaining for the majority.
Damn, glad I turn it off!
Liddy pointed out a Dem Lie and they will NOT ban ALL filibusters
It will stay the same regarding legislation
On to other Senate business.
So this morning was nothing more than more bloviating by both sides.
Not so fast .. Durbin is up talking about the Nuke Option now
Blaming Trent Lott for coming up with the name
Now bringing up Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith goes to Washington .. AGAIN
Durbin basically just called Hatch a Liar
Says Hatch is suffering from amnesia (sp?)
algore should be speaking now, according to the press release. I checked C-SPAN 3 but they're covering the steroid issue, (yawn).

One of my favorites, Senator Inhofe, up now.
Darn, I missed it.
God Bless Senator Inhofe!!! He's telling it like it is. That the democrats are cloaking themselves in the non-existent glory of defending the constitution, and protecting the honor of the senate, when that's far from their goal.
Their goal is to destroy President Bush.
.
FoxNews Alert.....
What, didn't they give us the lowdown on how he's dressed?!!
A DEMOCRAT instituted Rule 22, cloture, in 1917.
You are correct. There was no way to end debate. I am not even arguing that the cloture rule was bad. It just pisses me off that the Democrats are whining now when they have done what they damn well pleased in the past.
The democrats are the ones that have brought the process of ending a filibuster into the rules. Then they lowered the number necessary to bring cloture and now are objecting to a futher lowering of that number to a majority for judicial nominees...
Yep they are whining and will lose this one at some point. I think Sen. Frist needs to go ahead and get the nominees on the floor for debate so that this thing can be taken care of prior to a SCOTUS nominee becoming involved. This entire process also helps the democrats when and if they ever become a simple majority in the Senate again. It cuts both ways and is the way it should be.
The Republicans have basically sided with the idea that a nominee once out of committee should be entitled to a up/down vote. Thus outside of the bipartisan Fortas filibuster there haven't been filibusters of judicial appointments.
Good history in this article. It's not an easy read, but does hit on parts of Senate parliamentary procedure, as well as the variety of parliamentary moves that have been used to end debate.
The Senate has been dysfunctional for a long time.

Plain spoken? You mean like saying maybe Bryan Nichols was set off by judicial activism?
Is there a record of this anywhere on the board or a transcript? First I've heard this and would be interested in further sources relating it.
