NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York man was temporarily barred on Friday from preparing income tax returns for others because he has been including bogus tax credits such as reparations for African-American slavery and segregation.

The Manhattan U.S. attorney's office said it obtained a restraining order against Kevin Hardy of Mount Vernon that immediately barred him from working as a tax preparer until a full hearing can be held.

Prosecutors said that the Internal Revenue Code does not provide any such slavery reparations tax credit and that Hardy repeatedly prepared returns for others making such claims.

There's this victim mentality. Every one is owed a "gimme." Its prevalent in the black community, thanks to shakedown grifters like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

What else is new? People always want to get out of paying taxes. There are all kinds of seminars that will teach the gullible that they don't have to pay taxes because it's unconstitutional.

Of course, America declared it's independence from Britain in part based on "no taxation without representation", and now we have Congress and far higher taxes than Britain ever levied on us, but that's beside the point.:)

Isn't this kind of bad timing? He's probably done all the returns he's going to do this year. Unless it was a deliberate plan to let him file a bunch of illegal returns and then nail him for it (which is a bit rough on the suckers who fall for his scheme...)

I am surprised that people are still stuck on that idea. Isn't the new trend being "unique" tax shelters.

I am surprised they are only issuing a "restraining" order. I know if I tried this stuff, they would throw my butt in jail. Of course, I'm not a member of a protected minority group.

On this year's 1040 (and on my Massachusetts return as well),I took a $20,000 credit for the officially sanctioned "No Irish Need Apply" policy that was all but universal in and around Boston in the early 20th Century.

My uncle, particularly, spoke of this often. He was about 15 years older than my Dad.

Now,I'll just wait and see....particularly for the reaction of the Massachusetts Dept of Revenue, which is in the firm grip of the finest progressives that this nation has.
