Newsday ^ | April 10, 2005 | VERNE GAY

It is the hardest, cruelest question in television right now, and the one that no one seems willing to ask for the obvious reasons. But it hangs in midair nonetheless - obvious, intrusive, and uncomfortable: Who will replace Peter Jennings?

The anchor of ABC News' flagship broadcast last week announced that he has lung cancer and will occasionally miss the program as he undergoes chemotherapy starting this week. Nevertheless, Jennings' illness has forced the question that has been forestalled for years. Just exactly who will replace one of the great anchors in TV history?

I'll bet ABC tries to entice Aaron Brown to come back from CNN.

Lung cancer is a terrible tragedy but how ironic that we have lost the last of the all time leftist MSM talking heads.

Rather, Jennings, and Brockaw each tried to outdo each other toeing the leftist party line.

Jennings, Brokaw, Rather..blah, blah, blah....
He (they) will get replaced by more deceivers who will use their notoriety and air time to spew their leftist agenda and lies/omissions as they have for decades...the only good thing about them leaving is that the overall power of the MSM is diminishing. I hope their successors never reach the height of power they have.

The real question is why should I care?

The left is soooo pretentious.

Hope they don't put HIM on a feeding tube.

Could you imagine the uproar if someone tried to pull that tube?

The person who does replace him should realize that they will see the end of tv network news reporting. The big three are sliding into irrelevance and their sponsors know this.

These people are so conceited!

Jennings' illness changes the world as much as removing a bucket of water changes an ocean. As far as I'm concerned, the bucket is more useful than Mr. Jennings and the water is worth more.

And that goes for the rest of the talking heads. The media is not the message.

Tho a shame he has to endure this disease, He wasn't the greatest anchor, and changing the world....I think not. Replacements? They come a $9 million a dozen.

One of the great anchors? lol. Peter Jennings s*cks. He is everything you do not want in an anchor (biased, annoying, totally affected, ill at ease, injects himself into the story, distracting, egotistical...)As far as a replacement, how about a canned ham?

My vote goes to Mickey. I'd probably would give the verbiage coming out of Mickey's mouth more weight than PJ's'.

I do wish Peter Jennings the best of luck with his illness though. It is a difficult time for him and his family.

"Hope they don't put HIM on a feeding tube."

It does not do much good to be ON a feeding tube, better to have a feeding tube surgically implanted IN you.

Just the can would be closer to parity.
