ROME -- President Bush, determined not to upstage the funeral of Pope John Paul II, kept an unusually low profile in Rome yesterday, although former President Bill Clinton gave a television interview watched by millions.
"He recognizes the significance of the moment," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said of Mr. Bush. "And the focus rightly should be on the Holy Father."
Mr. Bush became the first president in years to conduct a full day's schedule on foreign soil without allowing a single press question, photograph or even fleeting image on videotape. His father, the first President Bush, also refrained from interviews.
"But President Clinton gave an interview to Brian Williams," said Mr. McClellan, referring to the "NBC Nightly News" anchorman.

Aside from Carter, can you think of another President more in need of hearing the Voice of God?
G.W. is a Christian. It is in that context he reaches out to Clinton. Personally I do not believe the Pope would have minded Clinton's attendance. He probably would have welcomed those who are not saved, and there is no question in my mind Clinton is not, with wider arms than those he is aware are Christian.
To the extent Clinton benefits personally from the Message, it is to his favor. To the extent he humiliates himself as he did this past weekend, it harms no one but him. President G.W.B is our Representative and he conducted himself with grace, compassion and humility.

I think they were sitting together. They didn't show much before or after the shot.

The clip I saw was when they were first walking in and Clinton looked and acted euphoric , talking and interacting with everyone, as if he was at a political rally.

JP2 opposed both wars, Desert Storm and Saddam Insane in Iraq. I wouldn't have much to say about JP2 either when he preferred evil to prevail. He's simply being tactful. JP2 preferred evil to prevail? LOL -stealth anti-Catholic bigotry is not your strong suit.

You:JP2 preferred evil to prevail? LOL -stealth anti-Catholic bigotry is not your strong suit.
Me: Apparently so since NOTHING would have changed if Bush had NOT gone in there. The Iraqi people LOVE Bush for allowing a "just war" to free them from evil, Saddam Insane.
Me:If anything, YOU are the one who is VERY confused.
Yaaaaawwwnnnn, name calling won't change the fact that JP2 was against all wars. If JP2 were around when Hilter reigned, he'd have opposed that and allowed more heinous murders. Hitler was evil and so was Saddam Insane. Either you support evil - letting it continue, or you are AGAINST it and STOP IT.
