I don't think it is necessarily a buddy-buddy connection... I think it's just a matter of 43 people have held the Office of President of the Untited States in the history of the world, 5 of whom are still with us....

Makes it a pretty small club to be part of, and although Clinton brought enormous shame to the office, he still ran the country for 8 years. I assume that there is just an unspoken respect to each other because each has teh understanding of what holding the office entails...

Two Popes died during Carter's administration. He sent his wife as the US representative to the first funeral and he sent his mother to the second. Could it be that he just has a "thing" about Catholics?
