American blogger under attack by canadians starved for information

Posted on 04/05/2005 4:08:55 PM PDT by northernlightsII

Captain's Quarters, a US based blog, has been publishing daily information from testimony at the Gomery Comission. That commission is investigating the Adscam scandal, where over $100 millions were diverted from the liberal Government to liberal operatives over a period of a few years. The particular testimony of one witness is thaught to be so inflammatory that a publication ban was issued on the the said testimony. It is believed that the revelations could bring down the liberal government and force a snap election. Captain's Quarters ,not subject to the ban,has been publishing the details and consequently his site has been flooded by canadians trying to get information. The Canadian government is threatening legal action against any media that publishes either the name of the blogger or a link to his site.

The site is currently very slow in responding, and another american blogger Small Dead Animals is reporting upwards of 200,000 visits per day.It would seem that some of the traffic is generated by canadian government servers. Are they purposely trying to crash the site. I can't access Captain's Quarters now and was wondering if other freepers may have better luck.

Back during Lewinsky, I believe that Jim mentioned that lots of hits to FR were coming from US government (.gov) domain hosts.

They weren't trying to crash the servers -- probably just loggin in to find out how much we knew. Back then, FR's servers didn't need any outside help in crashing.

It was sort of like Memphis's expressway system - Upgraded for last years traffic. We were growing like MAD

They're begging for a cross-border hack war if they really did this.

Tee hee. I love the Internet. Couldn't some other people who host underutilized websites set up mirror sites, to soak up the traffic?

WOW! And to think, I always thought Canada was a free country. This reminds me of the USSR era, government control agencies....communism rules in Canada!

Nah, our government isn't taking it down. It's just insane levels of Canadian individual traffic.

As soon as there is a publication ban, we *gotta* know what the fuss is about. In this case, government corruption with hints of mob involvement was just too much. My grandma will be checking it out soon I bet ;)

That site is going to go down due to legitimate interest - ALL of the Canadian papers (and most of the American ones) mentioned CQ today. Cache it now.

Smalldeadanimals did mention a lot of traffic from government sources.
The google cache is not working now.

That's exactly how it is for us now.

If there are any generous, intrigued, connected Conservatives out there who might fund freedominion.ca , . . . . . . .

WOW! I looked at that site today and wondered (and scratched my head!) as to what the slowness was about. (I also have dial up-lol)

Freerepublic rocks - still - with knowing the skinny on EVERYTHING!

Don't be thinking Canada is FREE - Dr. Laura is banned there for her opinions about gay marriage...
