Name That Pope
2005-04-05 | Me

Posted on 04/05/2005 2:58:49 PM PDT by UnbelievingScumOnTheOtherSide

What papal name do you think the next pope will take?

As I search the list there have never been 3 popes taking the same name in a row. Bookies are giving 7-4 that the next pope will take John Paul III. There was never a double name before John Paul I. Not interested in this thread who will become Pope, just what name do you think he will take? Is there some Pope that the next Pope will want to pattern after besides John Paul II that any new Pope would see the Church in need of? If it were me I might take Urban, but somehow I don't think that that will be it.

At least the first 36 persons named in this list were never called "pope" or "papa" by any person who believed Christ and His Apostles.

The anti-Microsoft/Linux people would go crazy if it was:

Pope Linus II

(Maybe that should be Pope Linus Version 2.6, honoring St. Linus and the current version of the Linux kernel?)

I think I was the result of a broken condom, but they were just too religious to name me "Dammit".

How about "Oops"?

If the liberals and MSM get the Pope they are looking for, the only name he could choose that would fit him, is Pope Judas.

Jesus told the Apostle Peter that he would build his Church upon him, Peter, the shepherd of the Church. (Matthew 16:18-21)

It did indeed take a while to evangelize and "organize". However, they did still pick leaders in an unbroken line from Peter thereon.

Questioning the lineage of the Popes because the Church itself took a while to get organized is like denigrating the Founding Fathers' role in the American Revolution because it took a while to set up a Federal system!

I think he would take one of the African Popes' names. Probably Victor, but maybe Gelasius or Miltiades.

... or perhaps Africanus.
