Peolpe that think FR is a hard place to debate and peruade would not last 3 days in the old days of usenet news. My G-d people express passionate views about the horrific prolonged public death of an innocent woman, what the hell does poo and others expect? Let them try posting on an unmoderated, totally free speech forum, chatboard or whatever and they will be begging to get back on FR.
Just post the link for the opus.
I'm with you on that, too. I used to put up commentary on those kind of places when I was even younger and even crazier, and I got death threats over stuff!
Some folks ought to see those places if they think FR has taken a dump. I'll grant some threads got real nasty and too personal for my liking, and it's true that some of my pet topics have been flame-baited over the last few days, but I know it'll pass. I have faith in the Country, and if I'm going to do that for the public, then I will certainly do it for fellow Freepers.
I don't know if any are still archived, though.
The really good ones were mostly pulled I think.
I'm a bit disappointed. I remember your description of the old days. The tradition of the Opus. Today's offerings didn't seem to live up to that famed history.
I'll fully admit I hit people hard in the heat of the moment. If the topic had been which Bond portrayer was better, it would have been over the top. Considering the subject was and remains Life, the subject matter itself calls for Passion.
I got hits in return on each end. I believe what occured was no less than an execution ordered by the Judiciary, but I also defied the sentiment that suggested the president and his brother are murderers.
Some people are too sensitive.
Actually the highlight that made me laugh in the midst of this was a cartoon of a fight among Republicans. State rights! Pro-Life! It listed all the arguments being shouted the past week. I found a minute of appreciation for that cartoon. In the midst of this fight conservatives were vital..alive. Free range of expression, passion and thought. Isn't that what politics should be? On the other end Democrats were largely silent. Irrelevant. They might as well have been dead themselves for the little Life they showed in a pivotal moment of our nation's history.

I guarantee you, if I debated on FR like I do on Usenet, JR would ban me for life and probably the afterlife, too.
Of course, one does not run into booger-eating leftist morons on FreeRepublic like one does on Usenet.
I was a regular at alt.impeach.clinton before stumbling upon FR. Talk about uncivilized.
