Another question: Has anyone thought to pray to her? Obviously, she is now a saint in heaven--and for the Catholic Church to eventually canonize her (and this next thought is so vain)in MS lifetime would be so very delicious. But I think that all of us should calm down and pray for MS to repent, there is still time for him you know. Yes he murdered his wife, and with accomplices all around. Are we not part of that for turning such a blind eye to what is happening in America? Not just with Terri, but with ALL death row inmates, abortion, etc. etc. etc. Please don't yell at me, I'm a Catholic and have a whole lot of trouble with my Church on the death penalty stance and the war with Iraq to depose Saddam Hussein (sodamninsane) I pray constantly that the Lord will help me get my mind right on that since I, like all of you THIRST FOR JUSTICE. What has happened to Terri is so unjust, but we all have to remember that the Lord will sort all of this out. Meanwhile, pray unceasingly for justice. IT WILL HAPPEN AND THERE WILL BE JUSTICE UNDER GOD.
Anybody with eyes to see one picture of her could see that she was still a human being and not some lower biological species.
There are people in far worse shape that have been kept alive for years for the simple reason, that tragic as it is, there is no moral justification for killing them.
I met a woman in a rehab facility who had just undergone surgery for a brain aneurysm. Her husband had been in a condition that sounds worse than Terri was for at least 10 years. Had suffered a heart attack and lived too far out for paramedics to get to him in time before he incurred brain damage. I didn't hear any talk of killing him for his crime of failing to recover. People didn't used to think like that, but some of these people do end up in state, county hospitals, nursing homes, etc., with no visitors and forgotten.
They are trying to reshape the public mindset with regard to those who are considered worthless and expensive to society. Sad as it is, I can find no moral reason to take their lives before they die a natural death.
Both cases happened because they were resuscitated. Is that an excuse not to resuscitate?
I'm also rethinking this living will thing, too. There is no way to ensure anything no matter what you do or don't do. Ultimately, God, or if you don't like that, chance throws in some unexpected curves.
I believe it as well.
No, the Schindlers did not "whip up" anything.
I've been following this case for years, so I know how the publicity level has changed -- and why.
Back in the 1990s, you'd never heard of the Schindlers. That's when they found themselves in an untenable situation: Their son-in-law Michael Schiavo suddenly changed his mind about his commitment to "take care of Terri for the rest of his life."
Not only had Michael suddenly changed his mind, but he had also suddenly become rich --he was awarded $300,000+ for himself in Terri's medical settlement, and was able to control and divert the $700,000+ that was earmarked for Terri's care).
Michael Schiavo went out and hired some of the slickest euthanasiast lawyers in the business to help him achieve his goal: Ending Terri's life.
Sadly, the Schindlers could hardly even find a lawyer to take their case -- there was no money in it for a lawyer. They did eventually find someone to take the case out kindheartedness, but this lawyer was hardly what you'd call high-powered.
So the Schindlers were getting steamrollered in court, for lack of effective legal representation.
The Schindlers set up their modest little website and non-profit foundation to try to get any help they could. There is no "whipping up" of anything there. Check it out: terrisfight.org
For the first two court-ordered tube pullings (in 2000 and 2003, I believe), the media was mildly interested. But you didn't see 24-hour coverage of the story then, perhaps because the tube was re-instated both times before Terri became deathly dehydrated.
I think what changed the media's interest this time was that Congress got involved.
And let's face it, as the court-ordered killing went on unimpeded by Congress's attempted intervention, the media became mesmerized by the drama of Terri's slow and excruciating demise. For them, it was great TV.
Police and emergency medical rescue personnel on the scene were able to revive her but doctors say she has suffered severe brain damage from prolonged oxygen deprivation and is in a persistent vegetative state.
An unsubstantiated report based on an ambulance attendant at the scene claims the woman was heard to say, "Please don't kill me..."
In related news, the husband has filed a civil lawsuit against the paramedics and the hospital for $100,000,000.00 claiming they were negligent in treating his mistress.
The husband's new live-in mistress (who has already moved in) answered the door at the home and stated that she hoped the "b**** died soon.
In an unrelated story, medical researchers at the University of Miami today published a ten year study documenting that Florida Liberals lack genetic markers for both conscience and compassion. The Florida State Supreme Court immediately outlawed the publication of the study and have jailed the authors.
Film at 11!
Why can't the scum at least split the ashes fifty fifty with the Schindlers. Then they can have two burial sites.
I think that falls into the catagory of being humane. Something he obviously knows nothing about.
Michael Baden, another celebrity pathologist, has been all over TV saying that Terri's parents have the right to have their own pathologist present during the autopsy.
Any Florida lawyers here know if what Baden said is true?
Hey Meek, Is that what we call a deeply embedded troll? (2 posts in 5 years)
If the ME discovers unexplained trauma to her body, can he hold the body for further examination???
That will be an inside job... forget about it, nothing will be found and reported!
I think your right.......nothing will be found and reported. Its a cover up. MS has his tracks covered long time ago.
But you don't get it... everyone here thinks that her burial should be a public spectacle with sign-carrying protesters, and they think Michael has no right to exclude people who will shout "murderer" at him during the service. But only because it's "our" side carrying the signs.
I feel for the parents. Their powerlessness and loss is truly heartbreaking. But it is the law that adults are in the hands of their spouses, not their parents. It seems that there have been many many points many years ago where this outcome could have turned and been less nasty, but neither side did. Now, the best thing is for each 'side' to hold their own memorials, and for them and the media to stop pretending they might come to a happy agreement now. It really doesn't matter where she is buried. The parents have to look for comfort somewhere else. I expect they'll find it if they wish, in their own clergy and supporters.
What does that mean? Lots of people are cremated and scattered or interred without a press release about where the site is.
I haven't asked for abuse charges to be brought against my daughter's fiance, who abused her in the past. That doesn't mean that her fiance didn't choke and bite her.
You missed the impedements to charging Michael
It seems like a lot of those are rearing their heads here lately.
AFAIK Michael is (was?) Lutheran. No idea about Jody.
Gross overgeneralization.
Long term, the kooks will go away, and leave just a grave.
Having Terri in a known place will be good and just for everybody involved. The idea that she has been hidden will just add to the furor surrounding her mistreatment.
There has been nothing in the last several years in America approaching the outrage at what's happened to Terri. The public's earnest desire to get back, get even, and then get far, far ahead of the opponent, makes one think of September 11 and earlier outrages.
This time, it is our own out-of-control judiciary that will be heated, be placed on the anvil, and undergo beneficial change...kicking and screaming all the while.
People who relish in trampling on Terri's life, and in rubbing our noses in their ability to get away with it unpunished, should reflect carefully on what they do and how many people are resentful and offended.
True.... substitute with "Most" or "Many" ;~D
I saw on FR that Greer actually referred Michael to Felos. Do you know if this is true?
