Apparently the AP reporter was doing a cut and paste from an earlier story. He spends the entire piece talking about McPherson's swearing in, then in the third graph from the end uses the phrase "if confirmed".

Uh... AP... if he hasn't been confirmed we've scheduled the swearing-in too soon.
