Woman caught lying after shooting

A woman who appeared to have been shot in the foot finally had to admit to just that on Tuesday. She'd earlier told police that a door-to-door salesman was to blame, which in turn prompted them to mount an armed manhunt.

The bizarre incident occurred in Sotra, outside Bergen, Wednesday night, and alarmed an entire neighbourhood.

It all began Wednesday afternoon when the woman was found injured in her own home by a member of her family. She was bleeding from a wound in her foot.

The woman said it was a gunshot wound, and that she'd been shot by a man who came to her door trying to sell books. She said he got angry when she didn't want to buy his books, and that he shot her.

That set off a major armed police action in her neighbourhood, as investigators tried to track down the alleged bookseller.

Doctors at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, where the woman was taken for treatment, could soon determine, however, that the woman's wound didn't result from a gunshot. Nor had any neighbors heard any shots, and no one else could report a visit from a door-to-door bookseller.

The woman ultimately admitted she'd made up the tale. She underwent an operation on her foot, although the nature of the injury and how it was inflicted remained unclear. Police described the incident as a "personal tragedy," indicating the woman suffers from psychological problems.

"We're glad we could call off the manhunt, and assure everyone in Sotra that there isn't any dangerous man running around here," said a police spokesman.

Might I be on your Albanian ping list? My real name is Adil Hoxha, and I'm very pale with pink eyes. ;)

The Norway of America - that's funny! I don't care who you are. ;)

Another thing that makes it good to be Norwegian is the Nordic traits. You always fit in and are never looked down on when you travel. Darker people tend to have more difficulty with that kind of stuff.

Yeah, right, you're Hoxha, and I'm King Zog.

I started the Norway ping list the end of January, when tomjohn77 protested that members of Free Republic are "anti-Norway," and as I was doing nothing in particular other than preparing income taxes and watching the prairie grass waver in the wind, I decided to see if I could "sell" Norway.

A remarkable product, Norway, well worth "buying."

So now I'm switching to a more-difficult product to sell, Albania. Nobody cares about Albania, but I'm going to do my best to change that.

Uh, I was once arrested by the Ukrainian "state police," on suspicion of being a German.

But it is generally true that, yeah, harmless-looking people are better-treated.

Bergen is beautiful also, I arrived in Bergen on a seismic ship and the passage through the islands was great.

Bergen is a beautiful small city.
I spent several days there before I flew into Oslo.
This was about 10 years ago.
I rode the Flobaden(sp) to the top of the hill, great scenery.
The people were very nice to me and it seemed all of the people under 40 could speak pretty good English.

Hi there,

I came over this old thread, don't ask me why :-)

But, you mentioning college football made me remember something. I just wanted to inform you of another Norwegian-American. Knut Rockne (sp?) came from Voss in Western Norway.

Cheers.

Of course Knute Rockne of Notre Dame was Norwegian.

By the way, during the 1920s, Nebraska played "the Four Horsemen" of Notre Dame, coached by Knute Rockne.

Notre Dame was unbeatable; no one beat them.

Except Nebraska.

Two times.
