Woman caught lying after shooting

A woman who appeared to have been shot in the foot finally had to admit to just that on Tuesday. She'd earlier told police that a door-to-door salesman was to blame, which in turn prompted them to mount an armed manhunt.

The bizarre incident occurred in Sotra, outside Bergen, Wednesday night, and alarmed an entire neighbourhood.

It all began Wednesday afternoon when the woman was found injured in her own home by a member of her family. She was bleeding from a wound in her foot.

The woman said it was a gunshot wound, and that she'd been shot by a man who came to her door trying to sell books. She said he got angry when she didn't want to buy his books, and that he shot her.

That set off a major armed police action in her neighbourhood, as investigators tried to track down the alleged bookseller.

Doctors at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, where the woman was taken for treatment, could soon determine, however, that the woman's wound didn't result from a gunshot. Nor had any neighbors heard any shots, and no one else could report a visit from a door-to-door bookseller.

The woman ultimately admitted she'd made up the tale. She underwent an operation on her foot, although the nature of the injury and how it was inflicted remained unclear. Police described the incident as a "personal tragedy," indicating the woman suffers from psychological problems.

"We're glad we could call off the manhunt, and assure everyone in Sotra that there isn't any dangerous man running around here," said a police spokesman.

Quick suggestion, sir; when posting an image, use the "preview" feature at the bottom of your screen where you write the message; the "preview" will show if you will display the pictures, or just end up with boxes and red "x"es.

Yeah, sure, I've checked the Norway Post before, and probably even used it as a source (I am not sure, having posted so many Norway stories).....but all in all, the Aftenposten seems the most excellent.

However, even a Google and Yahoo news search today shows.....nothing happening in Norway, because everyone in Norway is on vacation until next Wednesday.

It happens; one can hardly deny anyone a vacation.

You're back home two days too soon.

I heard nothing is going to happen in Norway until Wednesday (March 30) because everybody is away until then.

Were you skiing north or south of the Arctic Circle?

According to the newspapers from Norway, the winter was mild, and so the snow usually was "too soft" for good skiing, unless one went high up into the mountains.

If one wishes to ski, but also wishes to stay away from the crowds, the mobs, the hordes, the stampeding herds, of other Norwegians crowding the mountains, where does one go--of course, such a place would not have "modern" "conveniences," but surely there are faraway isolated places in Norway good for solo skiing.

I went Skiing about two hours southwest of the capital. It was at around 2400 feet 800 meter. The Snow was melting fast. It was excellent weather. I went skking both in the track and of tracks. I like cross country better than alpine. I like a good work out. Being out in nature makes you relax and its so wonderful

Well to be fair, there may still be a dangerous man running around there, it is just that this man in particular is not as dangerous as they thought. :-)

I saw your wonderful pictures. Looks nice in your home state. It kind of looks like how I picture Scotland. I have never been there, but it looks awesome.

Yeah, right; now you get a sense of American "humor"--irony.

Nebraska of course is nothing like Norway.....on the surface.

But it's fun to josh people.

But where you went, was probably crowded with millions of Norwegians. Are there any places in Norway where one can ski, without bumping into people?

How about around Gamvik, Borlevag, or Honnignsvag; one wonders what the skiing is like in those places.

Some isolated places in Nebraska resemble the wilder areas of Scotland, but Scotland has a lot more people, and a lot more surface water, than Nebraska.

Some of the finest cattle in Nebraska came from Scotland, though, a long time ago.

It sometimes gets funny, sir (anyone with your screen-name, I call "sir"), these "human interest" stories from Norway.

Of course, the blunt fact is, Norway is a very small country (in population), one of the smallest in Europe--Norwegians, like Nebraskans, should be proud of their rarity, their distinctness--and so the "human interest" angle in their news predominates, because in the greater scheme of things--the world scene--hardly anyone thinks about Norway, just as Americans rarely lose any sleep over Nebraska.

They should, though; interesting country and people--and not to be confused with "Sweden" or "Old Europe."

Dont forget the Nobel peace prize. Its good to be a small country. In Northern Europe Norway is well know for excellent Wintersport athlets. Germans know a lot about Norway since we compete in a lot of the same sports. We have a lot of German tourist in Norway. Germans like Norwegians a lot. French and English dont know that much about our country. Personally I have nothing against Germans, English or French. Had a nice time in France when I went there on my last Summer Holiday with my Family. We went to the French Riviera. I met some French guys on my age and had a great time. I got invited our to lunch at their parents apartments etc. I got invited out playing bocca a French game. Even though I knew no French just English and German.

Right; it's nice to be in a certain small exclusive "country club" sort of people, such as being Norwegian or Nebraskan, rather than the run-of-the-mill common ordinary German or Californian, of which there are millions and millions, nothing special about them.

One of the similarities between Norway and Nebraska--but past history, old history, forgotten history alas--is that, as the Norwegians used to terrorize Europe during the Dark Ages, Nebraskans used to be the terror of America on the college football field.

Everyone used to fear Nebraska, but now they either laugh at us, or ignore us--but of course we ourselves are to blame, getting rid of 100+ years of traditions, habits, and practices, so as to be like "everybody else" in college football.

Obviously, it would have been better for Nebraska to continue being Nebraska, rather than trying (and failing) to be like everybody else.

It could very well be; there are a lot of dysfunctional women in the world.

Dyfunctional men, too, but being male myself, I find it easier to deal with dysfunctional males than with the dysfunctional other half.

Ah, the famous Xenalyte, the one who long before anyone else saw the potential, the talent, the promise, in the DUmmie FUnnies--one is truly and humbly honored that you visited here.

By the way, after the income-tax season is over, I am starting an "Albania ping list," to complement the now-famous "Norway ping list."
