Sadr, Greer ~ both of them operate on their own authority, and as long as they dot all the i's and cross their t's, their fellow ayatollahs will leave them alone.

Islamist powers that increasingly hold sway in the fly-blown southern city . . . . We beat them because we are authorised by Allah to do so and that is our duty! Hard to believe this is the 21st Century.
The collapse of the British Empire was a genuine setback for civilization.

How long will the Iraqui's put up with Al Sadr's Bullsheit?

Again, a thug like Al-Sadr will start to act as the elected authority. Oh yes--he is authorized by Allah to harass.
Will the newly-elected reps be up to the task? Or are they hiding inside the Green Zone?

In Basra, however, Islamic militias already are beginning to apply their own version of that law, without authority from above or any challenge from the police. Significant. I think that this is the case in various areas across southern Iraq. There is no law, and other forces are filling the vacumn.

Ali recognised him immediately as a follower of Hojatoleslam Moqtada al-Sadr, the radical Shia cleric. Ali realised then that the armed men were members of Hojatoleslam al-Sadrs Mehdi Army, a private militia Sometimes, the meaning of freedom takes a bit to filter through to those that have never tasted it before.
Want to earn some extra cash, boys?
How about a bounty for each head from this "private militia" band of thugs?
You have every right to defend yourselves. Please use any means to do so.

I would so very much like to have a private counseling session with this piece of crap....

[We beat them because we are authorised by Allah to do so and that is our duty, Sheik Ahmed al-Basri said after the attack. It is we who should deal with such disobedience and not the police.]
The people who think we should have left Iraq and Afghanistan the way they were still preach that George Bush is a religious zealot who wants to impose his version of morality on others. They are close-minded fools.
