President Bush poked fun at himself at the press corps Saturday night and offered a new reason for overhauling the Social Security system. Raising the name of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Bush said, "We have to fix it or Rumsfeld may never retire." Ping to a funny article.

" Rumsfeld was rapped for his Iraq war planning. "Rummy, have you some spare Teflon coating that we could wear?" soldiers sang to the tune of "Mister Sandman." "You said we'd win Iraq with ease, Mr. Rumsfeld, we need Humvees."
Funny how last year all we heard about was how "tasteless" it was for W to make self-deprecating jokes about not finding WMDs. But here it's "funny" to make joked about soldiers who are getting killed.

I like that they can get together and laugh but maybe I'm sensitive but last year's WMD debacle was just awful and any mention of Iraq while our men and women are over there seems a bit cruel.......
To: Jenya
Most of this is too cynical, mean spirited and, in parts, tasteless. The exception were jokes the President made himself. Those were truly funny, but I think it has something to do with the nature of the man. He means no ill will when he does it.
To: Jenya
Sounds like the President did well, but as for some of the other "entertainment," the less said, the better.

"Answer: March Madness," Hagel said. "What do Democrats call my Social Security plan?" I guess we can scratch Hagel off the list of Future Comedians of America. |

Richardson compared the Bush's administration's treatment of U.S. allies over the Iraq war to the NCAA basketball tournament. "Sixty-four teams start and they're whittled down to just one," Richardson said in prepared remarks. "Kind of reminds me of what we've done with our allies."
That is funny. I gotta give it to him.

The president noted that former President Clinton was recovering from surgery and said that "when he woke up he was surrounded by his loved ones" - his wife, daughter and "my dad."
The only loved ones at clinton's bedside were Chelsea and his dad. The beast was there for publicity purposes only and to fit her personal agenda.

It sounds like Bush was making fun of that incident a couple of weeks ago when he forgot the name of the new Secretary of Agriculture at some event.
To: Jenya

I read before that Bush's nickname in college was 'The Wit'. He is a funny guy.

... Bush called Richardson and Hagel "a couple of independent thinkers, which in my book is a negative." Keep that writer!
