Pat Sajak: Dunces in The White House (Great Read!)
PatSajak.com ^ | March, 2005 | Pat Sajak

Posted on 03/06/2005 1:25:32 PM PST by wagglebee

Clark Clifford, a veteran Washington insider and, by all accounts, a very smart fellow, once called President Reagan “an amiable dunce”. That was pretty much the Left’s take on the Gipper throughout his eight years in The White House. They cringed at his depiction of The Soviet Union as “The Evil Empire”. They smiled at his naïveté when he stood in Berlin and forcefully said, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” They gnashed their teeth when he ignored large European demonstrations and began deployment of Pershing II and Cruise missiles on that continent.

Yet, somehow, the Dunce prevailed. The Evil Empire imploded and Mr. Gorbachev did tear down that wall. (Actually, others tore it down for him as he turned his attention to signing Western book deals.) The really smart people saw through all this and announced that the Empire had crumbled of its own accord, not because of, but in spite of, the intellectual lightweight who predicted all of that would happen. Of course, these were the same people who preached co-existence with this “superpower” just a few years before.

Fast forward to 2000 when another “dunce” was elected and then reelected in 2004. As John Kerry was reported to have said when reading a poll showing George Bush with a lead, “I can’t believe I’m losing to this idiot!” Once again, we had a President who showed his lack of sophistication in international affairs by defining an “Axis of Evil”, by going on the offensive after an attack on American soil killed thousands, and by suggesting that democratization in The Middle East was the best defense against terrorism. Not only that, this newest Dunce actually believed that such a transformation could happen!

So now we find ourselves with democratic elections in Afghanistan and Iraq; Syria announcing a pullout from Lebanon with elections to follow; small, but unprecedented, steps toward real elections in Egypt and Saudi Arabia; and perhaps the best shot ever at a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Naturally, we are now being told that all of this could fall apart and, even if it doesn’t, these were things that were bound to happen anyway.

It must be extraordinarily maddening to be so smart and to watch helplessly as epochal events occur during or right after the watches of dunces and idiots, and to see these people given credit by some for these events. To make matters worse, when the really smart people are in power (Carter, Clinton), international events seem to conspire against them.

The 2008 elections are likely to be wide open in both parties. Democrats are still trying to sort things out, the Republican incumbent can’t run and the Veep says he won’t. So who knows who will finally emerge and ultimately occupy the office of President? Maybe we’ll be lucky and find another Dunce.

I really hope the Hollyweird leftists know that Sajak is saying this about them.

The left is too stupid to get it. Someone on the right will have to explain it to them.

Good piece, with an excellent closing line. The Lib-Dems still do not have a clue. The MSM still doesn't have a clue. The Dems are hanging their hat on the candidacy of Hillary! who on most issues is moving hard to the right.

The main opponent that Hillary! faces, is Hillary! I count on the blogosphere to dredge up all of Hillary!'s positions before now (especially when Billyjeff was infesting the White House). Can the new Hillary! be defeated by the old Hillary! Maybe she will only be mortally wounded in the process of running against herself, and snatching the nomination.

We have our work cut out for ourselves.

I cannot wholeheartedly agree with your addendum.

I would certainly agree that results trump intentions

Congressman, I can promise you another republican will be president in '09 if Senator Clinton gets the nomination. I don't care if she goes so far right she has to wipe the current president's feces off her nose.

Too bad "Wheel of Fortune" is a game show, I'd love to hear more of Pat Sajak's commentaries. Too bad his own show was such a dud or was it just that the nation wasn't ready for it?

Hello,

I couldn't agree more that we have our work cut out for ourselves. Hillary will be a force to be reckoned with, as she now has 3+ years to convince the public that she is something she is not. Bubba pulled that off and we should not assume that things have changed so much that she can not accomplish the same.

We can not wait to begin our "outing" of her true positions, it must start yesterday.

Glad to be here, MOgirl

In 1968, Pat left Columbia after only three years, joined the U.S. Army, and was promptly sent to Vietnam. After a few months as a finance clerk, he was transferred into Armed Forces Radio and given the morning show on AFVN in Saigon where he yelled, “Good Morning, Vietnam!” for a year and a half.

I had no idea that movie was loosely based on Pat Sajak's famous line. Funny how this was avoided, perhaps, at least I never heard anything about this.

Do we really want to go there? The leftist racism will be on display and so magnified as to be stomach turning, and much of it will be lead by "black leaders".

The only thing that scares me is that a democrat could get elected President in '08. And what scares me more is who the front-runner is right now.

Great post; Sajak's uncomplicated analysis was a welcome surprise to me. Made his website a favorite so I can read the archives.

Am beginning to think the left is so impervious to the obvious because they have had their minds drummed out of them since kindergarten. We on the right only kept our minds because we were too dumb to understand what the teachers were trying to do to us.

Thanks, Wagglebee, for opening one more door.

It's so refreshing to note that someone in the intertainment industry has half a clue. From what I've observed, Pat has far more than half a clue. Nice read. Kudos to Sajak.
