And you evidence for this would be??
If Bush is a dim witted country bumpkin, then all of his critics are labotomy victims.
"Is US President George W Bush a dimwitted bumpkin who allowed a cabal to deceive him into undertaking a foolish war in Iraq? Or is he a competent strategist following a cynical plan that may bring about a settlement in the Middle East? "
Stupid or evil? Those are the only choices?
You don't recall the reports that came out showing that during 2001 Bush was planning for the invasion? The reports were real, but the Democrats tried to twist them into showing Bush was just a warmonger. Among other things, there were signs that Hussein was actively seeking ties to Al Queda after his air-defense was shown to be useless in 2000.
If this is such a hotshot writer, and a sort of objective, apolitical type, then I for one see no excuse for his using the moniker "Bush Jr" throughout this piece. Whatever else he says, that is and always has been a red flag. First of all, there is no such person as "Bush Jr"; second, it is disrespectful; third, it is used by almost every Bush-loather as a perjorative against President Bush.
Thanks for posting it.
Those were merely contingency plans that the Pentagon draws up for many different scenarios. the dims tried to turn it into a smear job on the "neo-cons' but it went nowhere because it meant nothing.
W/o 9/11 there is no reason to invade Iraq. Even W can't invade nations w/ no provocation.
Provacation: Refusal to comply with the 1990 Ceasefire agreement in hundreds of different ways, including firing upon U.S. aircraft.
Frankly, there was no legitimate excuse for not invading in 1994 when a huge cache of chemical weapons was discovered. The basis since then only grew.
GWB is a poker player. I think Iraq is all about not letting small problems grow into bigger problems as well as to send a message.
I think the message being sent is being heard and understood. Although GWB has been less than great on domstic stuff, his foreign policy is certainly good!
