Oh, my, somebody isn't taking his 60th very well. Stein turns out to be a neighbor of sorts although I've never met him. I've been following his stuff in the American Spectator for some years now, and have watched little Tommy grow up into the spoiled brat that was inevitable from about age 6. A WRX at 17? Well, whatever.

I doubt that his depression concerning the Middle East has continued given the events of the last couple of weeks. His friend Lara need not worry about her kids wearing burqa, courtesy of that dumb cowboy who can never get anything right, George W. Bush. Nor is Tommy likely to have to put his front sight on center mass of an armed jihadist, which is a pity in a way, because a uniform and overcoming cold fear in your gut makes up for many an adolescent shortcoming. For some of us it's about the only cure for affluence.

Thanksgiving was a rough period in Iraq, and if this seems a bit depressed it's probably that and Stein's contemplation of beginning his seventh decade. It's only a number, Ben, just the superstition of an even number. If the good Lord had given us an extra finger on each hand we'd be counting in base 12 and it wouldn't mean diddly.

My oldest daughter is a couple of years younger than Tommy Stein. I remember reading those Spectator columns when she was little, and thinking, "I can't believe he's letting the kid do this stuff!" It was like "How NOT to Raise Your Kid" lessons.

Been doing the same. . .handwriting has been on the wall. . .in the Spectator (!) since Tommy began on the pages there.

Obviously, Ben is not the diciplinarian. . .in which case; usually the 'other ' parent gets the responsibility to insure some responsibility.

ITMT. . .maybe Ben could ask Tommy to write what HE is thankful for. . .and include Tommy thougtts in his next article - witih permision, of course. . .might help - couldn't hurt.

I mean Tommy is there anyway, whether he personally contributes or not.

Parenting can be a tough call. . .but really, compared to Ben's honest and often painful sharing. . . that 'call' is probably a whole lot easer. Ben just needs to try it.

I think this article is bizarre.
Seems like a lot of boasting about his affluence and privilege.
Seems like his head was turned by an attractive reporterette/propagandist.
Seems like he is accepting his worries about his son as a substitute for parental discipline.
Seems like he is tempting fate to crash down upon him -- possibly as attonement for his great American wealth guilt.
