The Chinese obsession with building up their arms is, generally speaking, of concern and noteworthy over the last 20 or so years. The pattern has only been accelerating in the last several years. Many new weapons systems in many categories appear to be deployed or deployable FAR AHEAD of what anyone has prognosticated. Their underhanded, yet virulent, espionage campaign has been missed by most in the West over the last decade or two I am dead certain has helped their 'cause' greatly... The fact that they are making unrelenting and unrestrained efforts to convert their Navy from a mere littoral force to a deep water Navy indicates expansionist aims. I do not think for a second that the controlling the Taiwan Straits and Taiwan are their ultimate objectives. Of specific concern (among many other different weapons platforms in different categories, granted) is the aggressive development of their submarine forces and improved munitions to make them more lethal, particularly in a First Strike / sucker punch role. Fast, nuclear armed SLCMs are a major concern, with supercavitating torpedoes (guidance system aside), a close second, either conventionally armed or worse yet, nuclear armed. A volley of nuk. SLCMs on L.A. would, in my opinion, be a "nightmare scenario."

Thanks for the book reference. Appreciated. I am always on the quest for info. from all avail. Sources, both historical military analysis and current info. Resources which I may have not yet run into are always greatly appreciated. China has always been a threat and now with their unprecedented rapacious drive for more energy sources around the globe, that threat has multiplied considerably. We need to remain vigilant and keep an eye on those subs 24/7!

I have been monitoring different issues, etc and check out what I came across. Someone in China posted this article on Mar. 6, 2005. They quote me! I must be striking a nerve. I am like a pit bull on this China issue and I will not relent. They quote me. Some in the West are not fooled as to China's ultimate geopolitical objectives.

Look at this quote: "Watch closely as as China continues their aggressive drive to locate new sources of oil for their insatiable energy needs. "

I am going to keep an eye on this ChiCom discussion board to see if they post anything else I dig up...
