Since I retired several months ago, I've had plenty of time to listen to talk radio and I've been able to come up with my own factors for rating some of the hosts.
It is this: Who provides depth and insight and who doesn't?
To me, those who provide depth and insight include: Rush Limbaugh Dennis Prager Michael Medved Larry Elder
Those who fall into the "No **** Sherlock / Captain Obvious to the Rescue" category include: Laura Ingraham Sean Hannity
That's my opinion. What's yours?

I just finished your book. It was great. I have passed it on to my daughter. My brother wants to read it next.
"Lacks insight and imagination", a mantra often employed by the fringes on the left to describe President Bush. It appears Sean Hannity is in good company.
Neither are Savage, Boortz, or O'Reilly. Go figure.
Oh, okay, I was just a little disappointed when I saw it wasn't an article. I was hoping to see some kind of ratings table for all the radio talk show programs. Just a guess, but Rush would probably be at the top. I'd be interested in who came in 2nd, 3rd, 4th... :-)
I just find that hard to believe.
Savage- Most entertaining and the most conservative thats why i like him the best
Lars Larson- great local show and good national show 2nd fav
Medved- Intelligent best insight
Ingraham- entertaining can be funny but can be just boring
Rush Limbaugh- OK dosent seem to have the fire as much anymore and walks the republican line too much
Hannity- Water carrier for the Republican'
O'Reilly- LOSER to full of himself
Only ones I listen to daily is Savage and Lars Larson and if I can Medved. The rest I dont care if I miss them or not.
Savage is by far the best... He is so Politcally Incorrect and what he says about Rush and O'reilly is so true! Savage is the only one that gets me fired up the others either inform me or just says REPUBS GOOD RATS BAD! ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS GOOD CAUSE A REPUB IS PRES BUT IF A RAT WAS PRES THAT WOULD BE BAD! Only talk show host who talks about what Illegal Immigrats and what the ACLU are doing to screw this country... and calling Barbara Boxer and Feinstein for what they really are... Its not Rush Limbaugh O'reilly or Hannity... SAVAGE!
The person who brings the young people in the most is Savage! Everyone of my friends love him and hes the reason there conservative... People at my college also talk about him. The only guy my friends will listen to is Savage because the rest all talk about the same things everyday. I think Savage has brought in more 18-35 year old conservatives then anyone else. People like him because he wont hold back like the rest of the so called conservative talk show hosts do.
I am 36 and first caught Savage on a business trip to the Bay Area. This was circa '99 I think. I found him on the net once I could and listened. Finally they put him on in Youngstown, so I caught it once or twice a week. During Baseball season he was usually pre-empted for the Inidans.
When I moved to San Diego, I negelected to do a simple internet search and for a month assumed he was not on here until I found him on 760.
He is a little tough to take at times, but being Gen-X and someone who has listened to Rush on and off since becoming a conservative back in 93, I'll take Savage. I don't disparage Rush, I only mean if I had to choose one or the other.
Mark Levin has been posting as "holdonnow" on FR for many years.

I have to vote right with you.
Rush was the model and the speak catcher. He made it possible for all the rest.
Medved's intellect and his grasp of history is staggering. I admire his patience with the liberal idiots that he has on his show.
You nailed a Medved characteristic --- incredible patience with some very, very foolish people.
Rantel is the one with whom I don't think I have ever disagreed on anything. Plus, he is funny and a workhorse. Dependable, bright, and makes the best analogies.
Now she is conservative on most issues, despises NOW, and knows all the right reasons to hate libs. A convert who gives the real scoop on the lies on the other side of the fence.
We don't get Mark Levin on the West Coast! Or I've never found him.
Rush is still the King. It's not even a race. Nobody else is even close.
But also, under the bravado, he obviously has true humility and a relationship with the Man Upstairs. That keeps him from going over the top.
