Thank goodness I heard enough about "Million Dollar Baby" to know to stay away from it! If I'd had to judge whether to see the movie based on the title, I might have thought it was a movie about adoption or a difficult pregnancy and gone to see it.
There is an older (1970s) movie with a similar story but 180 degrees from "Million Dollar Baby." It was called "The Other Side of the Mountain," a true story about a young woman, a skier who had a real chance at winning Olympic gold--until she broke her neck in a skiing accident. The movie was poignant, touching, tear-jerking, etc., but it was always about affirming life, making the best of it even after all your hopes and dreams are shattered in a horrible moment. I believe the heroine of the movie is still alive.
Indeed. How the times have changed, eh?
