What do you expect from a part of our society thats biggest event is patting itself on the back?

Hi all--just got home from this FReep. I'm about to post a longer Post Action detail report here, and sending RonDog some photos soon to post here.....but this comment struck home. I walked back and forth to my car a couple of times....along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I was noticing the many names, some of old, some more recent, and was thinking to myself about how little a contribution most of those "Stars" actually made. Sure, they might make us laugh or cry or think--using somebody else's words and thoughts. Yet is that reason for the level of worship these narcissists among us warrant? We have statues, monuments etc. to commemorate such as General Grant, George Washington, Lincoln yet how about the lesser giants among us, those who in less-famous ways show backbone, courage, leadership, integrity, patriotism, CHARACTER. Just needed to "journal" this thought, might as well put it here for all to consider.

Great work!!

The Oscars/Freep was crowds and more crowds, lots of people trying to see the Rich and Famous, as they dodged Members of the PURPLE REVOLUTION!!!

It's so great to have "fellowship" afterward and meet everyone. We weren't all in the same place, while freeping, so it was a treat to talk, learn about each other and smile about the event!

What a blessing to have this outlet for our energies,
and our passion so we can encourage each other and be strengthened in the grand purpose!!

Ted Hayes was the radiant Uncle Sam and inspirational everytime he chanted or gave a cheer.

And RonDog in the Moore suit... what was it, "butt" backwards.

People who post on FR were there, plus many others who love America, served in the military and one young man just from Iraq on a 30 day leave!

Can you imagine the dedication, for this soldier to come to a freep while still on Bagdad Time/and with jetlag???

It's so nice to know that yes, Americans care about
their country, cherish their freedoms...

...And LOVE to Freep!

Can't wait to see more pictures!

Wow. Thank you for the two "Purple Revolution" shots, one of me with bullhorn and one of my hand.

My report:

I arrived with a box of purple rubber fingertips (a great bargain on EBAY where I snagged two gross for $1 per gross plus shipping--they usually cost about $2.50 per dozen at a stationery store) that had been dyed in RIT. In retrospect, I'd have gone for more of a lavender than a plum purple.

I was surprised at how few people understood the symbolism of the purple finger. When I got a puzzled stare from someone walking by, I made a point to politely ask "do you understand the purple finger"? If I got a positive response, I explained about the tens of millions of Afghans and Iraqis who risked their lives despite the threats to their lives by the powerful religious extremists. It wasn't merely voting, but that because of the dye, anyone who voted would be identifiable for 3 or 4 days AFTER the election. This is one of the reasons when I had bullhorn time I tried to explain the meaning. Frankly, I wasn't surprised that Hollywood would be this oblivious to REAL freedom and courage to fight for it.

Shout outs to the other FREEPers who helped hand out and explain what the "freedom fingers" were all about. In retrospect, I think it is important to POUND THE "PURPLE REVOLUTION" SYMBOLISM HOME, OVER AND OVER until it becomes as AT LEAST AS ubiquitous as the idiotic "WAR IS NO THE ANSWER" bumper stickers.

At about 3:30, I looked in my hip case and noticed that my PDA wasn't there. My LIFE is in it, so this was no small loss. I left the corner and walked back to my car at the lot on Cherokee that RonDog recommended. Hooray, my PDA was in the car after all. But walking back toward the FREEPing, I noticed that there was a primo location near Hollywood and Cherokee where cars were passing through a security gauntlet after being checked for explosives. Hundreds of cars got an "in your face" look of me with my "purple revolution" finger. I saw dozens mouthing the words "purple revolution" (proof of a solid public school education--having to read while moving one's lips!). I got some approving "thumbs up" salutes but I most of all I was successful at propagating the "mental virus" of planting the meme of the "purple revolution" that President Bush noted last week.

No doubt the newspapers and news shows that these limosine liberals watch do all they can to suppress the message of the courage of the purple-fingered first time voters.

At around 4:30, I walked back to the corner to see how well the rest of the FREEPers did.

Post-mortem... in retrospect, I'd have wanted one more sign with an explanation of what the purple fingers represented, a printed quotation of President Bush's mentioning the "purple revolution" and MANY signs with and WHY people should want to wear them. See below with suitable photos of courageous voters.

We could have really shown Hollywood, in character, as Garofalo-like.

Thank you all. Sincerely, Rantblogger

more later from permanent server...just had to Photoshop and share this one "juxtaposed" for now, as a "purple fingertip" is being given to an Oscar bystander.

OK, here's my "official" Post Action Detail Report...

Reported in at about 9:30 am to RonDog who was already in position with the "Culture War Materiel." Streets were blocked off all around making navigation a bit challenging, nothing major.

Offering to help any way, RonDog put me on the front lines of the action. Literally. I was handed a 4' x 8' mini-billboard of the Citizens United signs. Very Cool. Initial reaction from across the street, a couple of jeers and quite a few smiles from an apparent Harvest group (Greg Laurie's Riverside megachurch). At the very front rail next to the street, my job was to hold the position and hold the sign so all the celebrities could see and read it as they rolled up in their limousines.

One gentleman was quite verbally confrontive and disliked the big 4x8 foot sign, at one point saying I looked foolish holding it, at times fighting a bit with it due to the breeze. I'm sure he and those with his viewpoint haven't liberated five million oppressed people lately or anything so I discounted his remarks oh, maybe a hundred percent or so....

There were metal detectors, bomb-sniffing dogs, LAPD photographers and all kinds of SWAT and police teams on bikes, motorcycles and in cars ready for anything. The worst that happened was a Tolerance Nazi vandalized our 4' x 8' sign. Such destruction of private property can get one arrested, maybe it should have. We didn't push for that but it was, again, some sort of Tolerance Nazi that disagreed with the sign's contents. The sign wasn't blocking their view, it was down low when this happened. Ah, the bookburners once again rear their ugly doubletalking heads....

An aerial advertising plane circled the area towing a banner that read, in part: "BAD ACTORS MAKE WORSE GOVERNORS" I tried to photograph it and identify the sponsor but it was too far away (security regulations). Arnie was beloved by the Left and the MSM so long as he only ACTED like he had a spine. Now that he's shown that he might actually HAVE enough of one to challenge the teacher's unions etc. in real life...well, suddenly he has fewer friends on the Left. But I like him more. Now if he was more Pro-LIFE....

Met a fellow named Matthew (Hi Matthew) who may become a FReeper. RonDog and I coached him about reading and learning BEFORE posting, so he's not fed raw to the Viking Kittens as roadkilled troll.

One INFURIATING and one VERY COOL story, both related to us by a U.S. Military who is a FReeper who just got in from Iraq YESTERDAY....
First, the VERY COOL story: on Election Day in Iraq, this FReeper was guarding a polling place. Early in the day, an Iraqi woman tipped the U.S. forces off as to the location of a well-armed terrorist cell. The tip was verified and our Liberators TOOK OUT that cell. What an awesome thing, that voters there can provide the military intelligence that leads to their freedom so our boys and girls can come home....."No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy"
Now, the INFURIATING story: When that military hero arrived here YESTERDAY at LAX, he suffered being SPAT at. He was MAD. He was HURT. He KEPT ON GOING. Those of us hearing that story were all angered, of course. Talk about two, three, many Vietnams! "No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy" -- and no worse enemy than the Enemy Within.

A few thoughts for future events along public thoroughfares:
I heard numerous complaints from people "put the signs down" and "put the foam hands down." At different times, some of these people were right near me when voicing their complaints. I engaged them one at a time, expecting "hate Bush" type and was pleased--surprised--and better enlightened at how important this vain event is to so many. One guy right next to me was actually recently returned from Iraq! I pondered what to say. I asked him, "So, what do you think of how the elections went in Iraq?" His reply was "The media messed things all up." He was on our side, yet felt hostility toward the signs...not the message, just the tactic, which was blocking his view and that of others. I experienced the same blockage when I was taking photos for this thread...and I'm tall and I was at the front. So I can empathize. Something definitely to keep in mind. The location on the corner meant that a sign held up indeed could block the view of dozens, hundreds of people lined up east-west along Hollywood Boulevard. This only applies to the signs that were occasionally held up at the FRONT of the crowd--this does NOT apply to the signs that were against the building, seen in some of the photos. For Freeping such things, an alternate strategy would be to FReep along Highland, away from corners, where the Limos are coming and where any signs held up would block the view of at most a handful of people standing behind.

Over and out, g'nite and watch for more photos...

Absolutely wonderful - these people are brave. The "tolerant" people can be dangerous - just ask the little girl with the Bush sign in West Virginia (they tore it out of her hands).

There's just no way a room full of Hollywood elites is going to gather without some gratuitous President Bush jokes.

Can't control that, but I can control whether there is any of my money in their pockets when they do that.

Liberals have no new ideas. There's always a liberal who says that if you have a particularly effective sign. Or they say, "I don't get it."

In their value system, the group, that comment is like kryptonite, being an "outsider" is SO bad. Too bad they don't understand what it's like to stand on your own two feet.

We here on the East coast can't thank you enough for your efforts! WTG! Is the black gentlemen in the Uncle Sam suit a FReeper? He looks familiar, I'm just trying to identify some faces. BTW, how you guys are dressed, is noted here. We are gearing up for our 900th snow storm on the season on this side of the nation.
