Pentagon Blocks Nudie GI Peep Site
New York Post ^ | February 22, 2005 | Niles Lathem

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon has blocked soldiers in Iraq from accessing a pornographic Web site that is posting scandalous nude pictures of their female comrades-in-arms, The Post has learned.

Military officials confirmed that angry commanders have blocked access to the so-called "amateur porn" site from the military's Internet service and has warned soldiers that they would face discipline if the activity continues.

The action follows an inquiry by the Pentagon into the posting of nude pictures of at least eight female GIs — most of whom are serving in Iraq — on the Web site.

The photos include nude female soldiers, some posing with machine guns and hand grenades — and, in one case having sex — in military barracks.

Messages accompanying the photos indicate that most of the photos were sent to the Web site by fellow soldiers without the knowledge or consent of the women — and some seem intended to humiliate the women.

The Post has been able to verify that at least three of the women named on the site were in fact soldiers serving in Iraq.

"The soldiers I am in contact [with] are telling me that they have to be very careful now. The Pentagon has blocked access to my site from the satellite that provides Internet access over there," said Chris Wilson, of Lakeland, Fla., who owns and operates the Web site.

Still, some soldiers are finding ways to get around the new crackdown, either gaining access through private Internet services or posting the pictures when they return home from Iraq.

First I chuckled than I realized that the actions by the commanders was sound. Again folks wonder why I think chicks should not be out in the front. It is just not a good idea.

But have to tell you I am getting fed up with the troops having cameras and taking photo's and then posting on the web. It is just well abuse and you know perhaps we need to have one camera for the unit and if any troop is found with one or if the command finds photo's from anyone in their unit that there will be consequences. This is not your college frat party and silliness.

A small fact. Many Post's have topless bars nearby. Some are not banned for soldiers to patronize but there are many that are on the ban list. That if they are caught punishment will be had by the troops.

I know these guys are serving our country. I know that they miss their spouses, their sweethearts these establishments are legal. They can die for our country but cannot drink and now cannot frequent a website. Except this time I fall in line with the commanders this cannot continue for the morale of the troops.

Or any one of several thousand other things that hurts morale, brings dishonor to the military, etc., etc.

I concur with your thoughts on females on the front line/ in immediate peril (supply trains to the frontlines).

As for the smut being put out by a RARE number of armed forces members, the subjects of the photos, and the photographers should be subject to immediate DIShonorable discharge, and the webhosts subjected to the most stern, indeed draconian, penalties extant under CURRENT law.

Troop morale (let alone moral well-being) DEPENDS on aberrant behavior being NOT TOLERATED, no matter WHOM is the subject of photography.

Gene Hackman in "Crimson Tide" apparently said that. I thought it was a quote from a real historical figure. Oh well.

The chicks didn't mind popping their tops, but never expected anyone to have a camera phone, and never heard of something called the internet.

Nothing against popping tops, mind you. But please spare me the "I'm shocked and humiliated" comments.

Bravo, you said it all, thank you for putting it into perspective for me as well as those who will read the thread.

Terrific comment. Nice to know there are folks out there that feel the same way that I do.

I don't mind them blowing off a little steam but, c'mon troops, keep it to yourselves, ok? Particularly in an Islamic country where it's considered radical thought just for women to expose their faces, things we Americans would assume are harmless can be taken entirely differently by the locals we are liberating.

And as for women and troop morale, it seems like *some* soldiers got a morale boost from this but I question if it serves the greater purpose. The mission must always come first.

I'd thank you for your affirmation of how I "think", but common sense seems to have vacated the common dialogue.

Nonetheless, the perpeTRAITORS of this fiasco should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, be it civilian OR military.

(Yes, 'traitors' is a bit "over the top", but dishonoring your nation is still a serious offence, unless you're TK or BJC.

I agree with you, there are lots of ways women can serve without being stationed at the front.

A small fact. Many Post's have topless bars nearby.

Not in Iraq. I'm not aware of soldiers outside the barbed wire drinking and patronizing topless bars in Iraq. Are you?

They can die for our country but cannot drink and now cannot frequent a website.

General Order #1 prohibits viewing pornography on government computers. I agree with this order. You make it sound as though it's a bad thing that servicemen can't view pornography on the Internet on government computers. Am I misunderstanding you?
