PEST (Post Election Selection Trauma) claims another victim. Or maybe it was the years of heavy drug and alcohol abuse.

I wonder if, perhaps, a medical diagnosis of some terminal malady urged ol' Hunt to eat a bullet...

He seemed too much a cranky cynic to take his life because of depression. But a pragmatic choice in the face of incurable lung-cancer sounds about right.

"PEST (Post Election Selection Trauma) claims another victim. Or maybe it was the years of heavy drug and alcohol abuse."

Go over to the DUmmies and see all the wailing and gnashing of teeth. You would have thought the Messiah himself had died. Pathetic, just pathetic. And it was inevitable the BFEE (Bush Family Evil Empire) would be blamed by some left wing conspiratorial nutjob.

Nah, he found out that his name was not in Paris Hilton's cell phone.

But seriously, does anyone really care?

He would have written, "he would have wanted it that way."

Does anybody care, you ask...?

I mourn for him, even though he was precisely the venal, violent person his enemy Richard Nixon believed him to be.

I'd probably take a hit of blotter, today, in his honor if I could get my hands on some. But, of course, I don't troll for that crap.

This is a character who lived his life in fear, reveled in it, terrified of his autonomy. A self-confident conservative shouldn't be threatened by the likes of Dr. Thompson. Hell, for Hunter, was Other People.

But this participatory journalism, the Gonzo thing, was authentic rebellion against the monolithic Leftist Corporate "Journalism" that we forget so dominated the old newscycle.

Everyone was so serious at his peak, Left and Right. He, at least, was one left wing writer who didn't pretend or even believe in "objectivity."

If he would have let any of us in, and not chased us off with a shotgun, we might have gotten though to this guy.

As it is, all you Bloggers out there take note. You stand on the shoulders of midgets.

And, believe it or not, it was probably news of the death of Sandra Dee that got him.
