THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Newt Gingrich is demanding that the Bush administration get serious about stopping illegal immigration. The former House speaker wants the United States to completely seal off its border along Mexico and Canada, deport illegal aliens within 72 hours of their arrest and exclude U.S. courts from reviewing such deportations. "Let's be serious about sealing off our borders or [else] have open borders," Mr. Gingrich told more than 1,000 cheering conservatives on Saturday.

Sounds good, Newt. The majority of America agrees. Do you really believe what you're saying, or are you revving up for 2008?

Completely sealing the border would involve putting up a wall and guard towers similiar to the former East Germany/West Germany wall.

Just an Observation.

"It's a complete misreading of the 14th Amendment" to the Constitution to think that illegal aliens are entitled to the same rights as U.S. citizens, he said on the closing day of the 32nd annual Conservative Political Action Conference.
He hit all the right notes for activists at a conference where immigration proved to be the hottest issue — in speeches, panel discussions and hallway talk.
Legal immigrants, he said, should "have to learn about American history to pass a citizenship test, and they should have to pass it in English."

Mr. Gingrich was one of the three biggest attractions at the three-day meeting, with Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove and author Ann Coulter.

welcome back to the real world Newt

It won't be long before he is marginalized as a loser and out-of-touch has-been.

Not that I think he is...but people who have plans to stop the invasion should probably work as a group of at least five or six prominent people, together, so they aren't held up to ridicule and scorn, one at a time.

IIRC Clinton was not afraid of using his VETO power. I also don't remember immigration being as big an issue when Newt was speaker as it is now.

Wen is also scheduled to visit the headquarters of Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex. Chinese firms have succeeded in winning contracts to do work for the company.

I was thinking the very same thing myself. I'd be curious to know if Newt, the conservative believes this or if it is the Republican presidential wannabe just espousing these (widely popular conservative) views as they are currently in vogue among those he wants to court (and will need to win with in a run in '08)!

The only chance I see to help America and Mexico is to seal the border, deport the people who are not here legaly. We also need to arm the Mexican people so they can have a chance against the looters with their armies.

Hmmmm....a mighty tall order....but a plan nonetheless.

I think this illegal alien solution must come from us. Let's apply an old chant to this issue:

OUT NOW!

Also assuming that a plan is feasible, does anyone know how many guards it would take to completely seal off the 2000 or so miles of border?

House Chief of Staff Karl Rove

Who was probably gritting his teeth when Gingrich was talking about illegal aliens.

Hillary and Newt have seen the light. Same light many Freepers have seen for years. Same light I saw years ago in 1992 when I worked for Pat Buchanan.

Karl Rove, get with the program! You and GW had better wise up.
