"They at least ought to get the sticker right."
Don't count on the Creationist crowd getting very much right.
"what then is Creationism? "
A nice myth that's not nearly as creative or entertaining as those told by Greeks. Now THOSE people could really tell a story!
But at least they knew they were only telling a story.
Maybe I missed it in the thread, but did you ever post a working link to the "Objective Origins" curriculum cited in your opening article?
I'd be very interested in seeing what curriculum is being proposed as a subsitute to the teaching of evolution.
I completely disagree with you. I think it's a dangerous thing to alter school science curriculum for the purpose of someone's idea of religious truths.
"Our government was founded on Christian principles and the founding fathers never envisioned them being challeged by so called religions that are nothing but idolatries and cults."
I'm not sure what your point is here. But I would suggest that with respect to religions other than Christianity (Islam for example) it is a darn good thing that we have an Establishment Clause to prevent their particular religious "truths" from being taught in our schools. And that is what I mean above by it being a dangerous thing. Once you open that particular Pandora's box, you can't really shut it.
The theory will always remain a theory just like gravitational theory will always remain a theory.
You can't have a conversation with people that refuse to accept simple definitions. It's a waste of time at best, and cruel at worst, like poking an animal in a cage with a sharp stick.
I'd bet a plurality of Americans can't locate Myanmar on a map. It should be moved, obviously.
Bunk. Evolution is a scientific fact. Not the same as a logical fact.
Obviously you have to sign the petition to get more information.
What is Objective Origins?
A grassroots movement is underway to ensure that public schools teach the truth about evolutionincluding its criticisms. Its called Objective Origins.
Already in a number of states, Objective Origins encourages schools and school teachers to teach the subject matter objectively and comprehensively, promoting critical thinking on the part of the student and allowing them the freedom to experience and explore a wide range of scientific views that exist regarding the origin of life.
To receive vital information on Objective Origins, click the Objective Origins checkbox when signing the petition!
By definition, our ancestor species were not the same species as Homo Sapiens.
This sticker needs to be removed. Whoever composed this sticker does not know what the word theory means in a scientific sense, not the proper use of the word fact. Such a statement, regardless of your thoughts and feelings on evolution or creation, torpedo the entire body of science. Might as well drop science education and get your kids to dribble a ball dowen the court because they won't have any understanding of science.
LOL! RadioAstronomer is often silly. :-)
Actaully, anyone with any scientific appreciation can see the ridiculusness of this sticker. How can a sticker, which purports to be in support of scientific rational, not even know what scientific logic curtails. Whoever wrote this sticker needs to get to basic science 101 so they can at least learn what science is about before making claims to what is a theory and what is a fact.
To a scientist, the first sentence basically says, "This textbook contains material on science. Scientific theories are theories, not fact, regarding our understanding of the natural world." The sticker needs to be in every physics, chemistry, medical, astronomy and geology textbook throughout elementary, middle, high schools as well as colleges. While we are at it we should shut down all of the college biology departments as well as all medical schools until they stop using evolutionary theory every day in the work they do. Whay not shut down all science based research since it leads to godlessness and will hurt America. Education should be like the madrassas in Pakistan.
Below is a link to a "Technical Explanation of Objective Origins Science Policy" put out by some Kansas group called "Intelligent Design network, inc." (lower case original).
It contains alot of impressivly high-minded gobbly-gook, but no curriculum. The nuts and bolts of an actual curriculum seems to be outside the scope of the "movement".

Come on! All you have to do is look at the craters and you can just tell that they weren't made by no rocks falling from the sky. God did it!!!
Oh, and I forgot, there's no possible way that rocks falling from the sky could have formed living things, and you can't explain everything in the universe by rocks falling from the sky!
Get your own rocks!
Oh really. Please then explain to me precisely why it is that two massive bodies attract each other with a force proportional to their masses and inversely proportional to the square of their separation distance. According to general relativity, it's because of the warping of the geometry of space-time. Why does matter warp space-time? If matter warps space-time and creates an energetic attraction, why doesn't this energy further warp space-time (since matter and energy are equivalent) and create a new energetic interaction, which would then further warp space-time and so on ad infinitum until we have infinite energy? The origin of the diversity of species is certainly much better understood than is gravity.
