Check out his hands in that picture...see how pale they are? Yet his face is ruddy? His body is shunting blood away from nonessential areas (hands, feet) and focusing it on more imperative areas...head, brain, internal organs.

Very telling signs of shock. I was reminded of the old First Aid Adage:
"Face is pale. Raise the tail. Face is red. Raise the head."
