You surround yourself with capable people like Rice and Rummy-- and you can't do too badly (again, compare with the Gov's of GA and AR that became POTUS). I think the most effective Republican presidents have had executive experience-- be it as Governor (Reagan, Bush) or SACEUR (Ike) or as VPOTUS (Nixon).
Rice sprouted from Academe and has served ably in her posts for the President. I think she is marvelous and would be fully on board with her for POTUS if she had some executive experience in her background. Tack her on as VPOTUS for 4 or 8 and then ink her in for her own 4 or 8. This route won GHWB one term (and shoulda been two).
I agree completely...but can you just IMAGINE the Presidential Debates...MEOW!!!
Ok just kidding about that last...maybe...;-)...but actually I imagine they would be the best Prez debates in years, maybe decades; scintillating Intelligence as well as incandescent emotion...we might actually see them throw off the gloves and start speaking Truth *gasp!* about their and their parties' political philosophies and wouldnt THAT be a fabulous change from the 'canned' debating of late eh? ;-)
