I always notice the drivers forearms when they are in street clothes. You can't miss the muscles!!

It takes great strength to endure 400-500 mile races in these cars!!

Q. Who are some of the Cup drivers that you feel close with?
BORIS. I feel good around most of them. They’re all good guys. But I guess you could say that Dale Jr., Joe Nemechek and Casey Mears I consider pretty close friends. I could go up and ask them anything.

Q. If you were a fan, who would be your favorite drivers?

BORIS. Jeff (Gordon), Tony (Stewart) and Dale (Earnhardt Jr.). I think they’re three of the best drivers in the business. They’re also neat people.

Q. How did you and Dale Jr. become kindred spirits?

BORIS. When he came into Cup racing DEI hired me to go up to Sears Point and teach him about road racing. Some people you meet and don’t get along with and some people you meet you just hit it off. And Dale and I hit it off right away and we’ve been good friends ever since. I helped him out as much as I could on road racing and he has helped me on the ovals, especially at Daytona. If Dale wasn’t who he was we would still be good friends. We just connected. Maybe our DNA is similar.

Q. By helping Dale Jr. you got to meet Dale Sr. What was your first get together like with the elder Earnhardt?

BORIS. A week after I helped out Junior, his dad came up to me and told me how much he appreciated the time I spent with his son and how much Junior enjoyed it. I was star struck and lost for words. I didn’t know what to say. He was such a nice guy, and still to this day, I can’t believe he came up and talked to me. I was blown away that the “Intimidator” was thanking me. That was very, very cool.

Q. As both a teammate and friend of Dale Jr., what was it like seeing him engulfed in flames during a sports car race in Sonoma last year?

BORIS. It’s hard to explain. It’s bad enough to see it on television to someone you don’t know. But for somebody you know and a good friend it was horrifying. It was a feeling of utter helplessness. I wanted to run in there and grab him, but it was a physical impossibility because of the proximity of the car and where I was at. We might joke about it now, but it was scary when it was happening. We’ve talked about teaming up again in the future and I am sure we will -- but it won’t be this year.

Q. What are your thoughts about drafting?

BORIS. Drafting is like playing chess in the middle of a mine field with people shooting at you. There's chaos all around you. You need to stay calm and think clearly. It's exciting and awesome, but at the same time it demands a lot of concentration.

While I can see your point, maybe you don't need to GET it anymore. Basically the cars are used as platforms to test new technologies in mechanics, aerodynamics, lubrication and rubber/synthetic sciences.

Agreed, but the how about this? I.R.S. Internal Revenue Service? How does one generate revenue internally? and do you really need a service to do it?

At one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word "service'. The act of doing things for other people. Then I heard the terms: Internal Revenue Service Postal Service Telephone Service Civil Service City/County Public Service Customer Service Service Stations

I became confused about the word "service." This is not what I thought "service" meant. Then today I overheard two farmers talking and one of them mentioned that he was having a bull over to "service" a few of his cows. SHAZAM! It all came into perspective. Now I understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us!

The Budweiser Shootout: Beginning with the 2003 Budweiser Shootout the race was formatted into two segments. The first segment is 20 laps after which a 10 minute intermission is held. During the intermission teams may change tires or perform any other action that would be part of a normal pit stop. The second segment is 50 laps that must end in a green-white-checkered finish. Caution laps will count toward the total in both segments so the second segment may extend beyond the scheduled 70-lap total.

In the event of a red flag, crews will be permitted to work on the cars; however, all work must be performed on pit road or Garage Area only. When the race is resumed, all cars must immediately be ready to return to competition.

All re-starts will be double-file re-starts. All lapped cars will re-start at the rear of the field.

The starting positions for the 2005 Budweiser Shootout will be drawn at random.

A $1,087,300 purse is offered for the 2005 Budweiser Shootout. The winner will receive at least $211,500. Eligibility: A total of 21 drivers are eligible for the 2005 Budweiser Shootout, one less than the 2002 record (22) for the largest field in the history of the event. Twelve gained eligibility based on winning a Bud Pole Award in 2004 while the others are eligible because they are past champions of the Busch Clash/Budweiser Shootout that did not win a Bud Pole Award in 2004 and finished in the top-60 in final NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings. Four drivers will be participating in their first Budweiser Shootout: #16-Greg Biffle, #9-Kasey Kahne, #41-Casey Mears and #25-Brian Vickers. Other drivers: #12-Ryan Newman, #24-Jeff Gordon, #9-Kasey Kahne, #19-Jeremy Mayfield, #01-Joe Nemechek, #48-Jimmie Johnson, #21-Ricky Rudd, #18-Bobby Labonte, #97-Kurt Busch.

Eligible drivers eligible based on being past champions of the Busch Clash/Bud Shootout: 13. #88-Dale Jarrett (winner - 1996, 2000, 2004) 14. #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. (winner - 2003) 15. #20-Tony Stewart (winner - 2001, 2002*) 16. #6-Mark Martin - (winner - 1999) 17. #2-Rusty Wallace (winner - 1998) 18. #49-Ken Schrader (winner - 1989, 1990) 19. Bill Elliott (winner - 1987), #39 Coors Dodge 20. Terry Labonte (winner - 1985)(no plans to run it as far as I have heard)

Take away all the high tech goodies from the F1 drivers and then see what kind of performance level they have.

Them Rally drivers are just plain crazy.

I enjoy all forms of speed be it cars,boats,planes,bikes, heck strap a motor on a cockroach and I'd watch a race of them if nothing else just to watch their legs get scrubbed off.

Here's my man with the Daytona 500 pace car at Fox NY studios.

The design of the Daytona 500 Corvette pace vehicle includes elements that reflect the heritage and attitude of the historic winning Corvette race cars. The Corvette pace vehicle is millennium yellow with a black racing stripe centered across the hood, roof and trunk lid with the Daytona 500 logo on each door and Chevy's "An American Revolution" slogan on the rear spoiler.

I vaguely remember the line from the MBV/MB2 team after last year's Shootout; something about crying like a baby :-)
