Mr. Schiavo is so committed to seeing his brain-damaged wife dead that he is legally fighting her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, to have her feeding tube removed.
Schiavo claims that his wife, Terri, once told him that if she were ever in the sort of state she is now that she would want to be allowed to die. So now he is doing his best to make that happen.
The case has made national news and "right-to-die" groups are squared off against "pro-life" groups.
Because Michael Schiavo is still Terris husband, he has had the upper hand in the legal battle. But he has clearly moved on from her emotionally. Hes been living with another woman since 1995. They have two children. Why is it so important to him that Terri be killed, especially when she has a father and mother and brothers and sisters who are willing to take care of her?
Doctors have deemed Terri to be in a persistent vegetative state but others so deemed are not routinely put to death. Some have rallied from such diagnoses, surprising doctors and their hopeful families. Just a couple of weeks ago, a woman came out of a 20-year coma.
Bob and Mary Schindlers dream is to take their daughter home and take care of her.
Michael Schiavos dream is to see their daughter dead.
Which dream deserves more respect?
