Big problem for Bush and the Republicans if they come across as weak on this issue. Notice how Hillary is coming out strong on anti-immigration issues. The last two elections were close enough that if she could pick up a few red states with a strong stand against illegal immigration, they the rest of the republican agenda goes out the window. Likewise with spending. Watch Hillary start talking like a fiscal conservative. And watch the Republicans keep spending money.

I've heard Dick Morris's theories about her viability, it's possible, I guess. Maybe if she took an 'Iron Lady' role, like a Thatcher type, it would fly for a while, until the VRWC pounces on her...

Yeah, but Hillary is lying. I have the slightest idea as to why Bush is the way he is on immigration.

I mentioned in another post that Rush should not get
too much credit for his ideas about the illegals. The
12/31/04 edition of the National Review had on its cover
"How Bush may ruin the Republican coalition because of
his views on immigration" by David Frum. Rush listeners
know that he often quotes from N.R. Online and the magazine. He has also criticized Bush for his massive
prescription drug entitlement and his position on the
steel tariff (which he reversed). As Rush has said many
times, he is FIRST a conservative, not Republican. And
we as conservatives should also criticize Bush for his
excessive spending -- of which there has been far too
much.
