Big problem for Bush and the Republicans if they come across as weak on this issue. Notice how Hillary is coming out strong on anti-immigration issues. The last two elections were close enough that if she could pick up a few red states with a strong stand against illegal immigration, they the rest of the republican agenda goes out the window. Likewise with spending. Watch Hillary start talking like a fiscal conservative. And watch the Republicans keep spending money.

I heard it today driving around, I figured it would have hit FR almost instantly. I'm glad Rush is finally addressing it. It's been the elephant in the room that the entire media refuses to discuss, except for Savage, the Washington Times, and the internet.

One thing I am SICK OF are the morons who keep blaming the poor schlubs who come across the border, instead of blaming 1. the US government for not doing their job and 2. our NEIGHBORS who hire these people for lanscaping, construction, short order cooks. Yup. The ultimate solution would be a regime change in Mexico, to flush the corruption out of their silly political system. We might actually get a decent trading partner out of the deal.

Without a large supply of illegal (lacking legal status) workers, the farm economies of California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Florida and most of the Southeast would collapse. It's not that Americans won't do the jobs that illegals do--we just won't do them for $2 an hour.

I hate to say it, but you're right. Mexico needs a Second Revolution. Of course, that will mean that the upper class Mexicans will simply all move up to Oak Creek and take over Nieman Marcus, but that's a small price to pay.

Illegal immigration is a supply and demand problem sanctioned by our Government and the governments of our neighbors.

Eliminate the demand and the supply will go away.

I'd like to see actual numbers on this. I suspect it may be true in some places, some of the time, but nationally a big chunk of the economy depends on access to this bottomless source of very cheap labor. Regardless, I'm not making a case for the current system--I think we should have control of our borders. Illegals enter the country in large numbers because we let them. End of story.
