Free Republic is not really tightly tied to real world identities. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. The good side is that I think, going back a ways .. and I've been here since '98... it originally allowed conservatives who were used to be outnumbered and discriminated against to vent freely. These days it still lets people be more, well .. FREE, as the name implies then if they were posting under their real names as you have chosen to.

Of course like any freedom the near-anonymity of Free Republic is also abused. Flame wars, idiot vanity postings, the normal internet stuff.

Some of the most notable Freepers, such as Jeff Head, have always used their real names. Others such as Travis McGee began with a pseudo-name but told us so much about themselves that we came to know them in the real world too.

As for me my proudist accomplishment, by far, are my two girls age 15 and 21. Both great students and people. Along the way I've picked up a lot of skills, done well in my profession, made friends and traveled. I haven't written the Great American Novel, launced a successful IPO startup, or run for office. I play a mean slide guitar though.

Welcome! Nice to have you here. You sound like a very smart, sincere and hardworking guy! Good for you. Phillis Schafley has done a lot for the conservative movement, I'd be proud of it.

BTW: just cause I'm not a huge Alan Keyes fan I still think it's cool to work on his campaign. After all he was the party nominee. And good for him for being willing to take the shot. But I just think it was not just hopeless (you can run a hopeless but sort of dignified campaign), but it was ugly.

>Hmmm...Do you announce your arrival at the supermarket too?

>>Keep in mind Jonathan that tooting one's own horn requires painful contortions. You'll invite more scrutiny that you may want.

Haha...agreed. I guess I was a bit taken aback by the directness of antaresequity's comments. I guess in the end, those who are concerned about issues will become evident.

18? You got a whole lot of learning to do. Are you related to Bob Dole?

An 18 year old know it all. Welcome aboard. You're in the big league now. Better have all your p's and q's in order before you flame someone you know nothing about. We have major conservative celebrities on board. You might have just ticked off Ann Coulter. Never know who you're talking to.

Just be aware, that FreeRepublic has been here for a long time. That it played a HUGE role during the 2000 recount in turning public opinion in favor of Bush.....the Sore/Loserman signs that spread like wildfire were started right here (poster Registered). Be aware that FreeRepublic (namely posters Howlin and Buckhead) was the group that FIRST questioned the CBS/Texas National Guard forgeries and started the internet wildfire that led to CBS's embarassment.

If you come here with that in mind you'll be fine, if you come here thinking that FreeRepublic has to prove that its done as much as you, you probably won't like it.

Jonathan has recently returned to California from Chicago, where he served as a logistics coordinator and personal assistant to Ambassador Keyes on the Alan Keyes for U.S. Senate Campaign in Illinois. He was instrumental in assisting his sister, who was recently bitten by a moose. Last summer, he felt very strongly that he saw a host around the sun.

Alan's senate run was foolish to say the least, however he was asked by the Illinois Republican party to run. Put his loss in Illinois squarely on them.

You say he's unelectable but did you know that in the NH 1996 primaries he out polled Bob Dornam, Phil Gramm and Dick Lugar. He actually had more votes than those three combined.

what have you accomplished?

Does feeding 20 families and sticking it in the eye of the liberal scum in Marin amount to an acomplishement?

INVICTUS
William Ernest Henley. 1849–1903

OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Mr. trouble never hangs around,

when he hears this Mighty sound,

Here I come to save the day! That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way!

Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right,

Mighty Mouse will join the fight!

On the sea or on the land,

He's got the situation well in hand!
