I'm sorry but I just don't remember it that way. I must admit I was overseas much of the time between 1970 and late 1974. However, it seemed that the Democrat party largely marginalized themselves during this time period. You seem to accept as fact movie history and revisionist historians. Nixon won a landslide victory in 1972.

Watergate, gave the antiwar Dems a distinct advantage (and victories in the 74 midterms) to withdraw support for the negotiated settlement. For various reasons Carter beat Ford in 1976 but he wasn't what he claim to be and additionally was totally incompetent as a leader and administrator. The voters corrected the mistake in 1980.

As I recall Walter Crankcase swayed the American public heavily. When he started his claptrap the American public bought into his diatribes against the USA so you are both half-right. :-)

Apoligies accepted!

Nixon won a landslide victory in 1972

I was in my twenties and I seem to recall that Nixon won for two primary reasons: 1. He promised to end the war by winning and to bring the troops home as a result of the 'win', and 2. McGovern was a very weak Dem candidate (yes, as a young, liberal person I actually campaigned for McGovern...live and learn). Anyway, those were extraordinary and high-tension times and McGovern was very, very under-capitalized because he was just too 'hokey' for the East Coast Dems. About all he had actively campaigning for him were young people. In fact, I vividly recall attending the rally in San Francisco where Willy Brown was a key player in raising money from the crowd. Seems like a million years ago (and it was).
