Activist's Arrest (Terry Moran's question to Bush that no one ever heard about before)

Activist's Arrest

At President Bush's press conference yesterday, ABC News (search) reporter Terry Moran (search) described the case of a Jordanian activist, Ali Hattar, who Moran said had been arrested and charged with slander for promoting a boycott of U.S. goods. Moran called it an "abuse of human rights," and invited the President to condemn it, saying, "If you won't, sir, then what ... do your fine words [about freedom] mean?"

President Bush said he was unaware of the case. He was in good company. The Hattar case appears never to have been mentioned by any news outlet in the U.S., including Moran's own network, that is, until Moran asked his question.

Oh, and one more thing. Jordanian officials claim Hattar was not arrested for encouraging a boycott of U.S. goods, but for claiming that Jordan was buying weapons from the U.S. and using them against the Jordanian people.

He was trying to make W look silly, but it backfired.

I'd be embarrassed to show up for another press conference if it had been me.

It's time to bump this one back to the top.

And I think we should write the White House, insisting that from now all, ALL transcripts from the White House press briefings have the reporters' names in front of the questions!

That is an excellent suggestion.

I called the Pentagon about 3 years ago (right during the Afghan war) and requested that during the Pentagon press conferences all reporters be required to identify themselves. The PR officer laughed and said he would pass the idea along, but I imagine there were problems in doing it (as in the press would howl).

I still think it's a good idea for all press briefings. After all, they certainly should be proud of their questions, shouldn't they?

There's no reason in the world that whoever types a transcript up doesn't put the names first.

I had heard this; I think Brit highlighted it during on of his shows, too. Thank goodness for Brit (and FR).

Off topic: Tony Snow has cancer. Please say prayers for him.

I think they will go after Brit sooner or later, probably sooner.

Brit will fight back. Hopefully they ALL will fight back. Send their families out of town if they are worried about threats, but we just can't let the thugs intimidate us out of business.

Yeah, Brit and Sean Hannity, just because they want to.

Too bad everytime they try, it just re-energizes us more.

What they don't understand is that these pundits, hosts, writers, journalists, etc are merely voicing what we say. They can't stop all of us.

For a few days fter the Gannon thing and the NCPAC thing, I was worried about coming onto FR and saying anything, but you know what? They can take a hike for all I care.

Should I hold my breath waiting for David Brock to hound Terry about that question he asked the President?

..... I didn't think so
