THE DEMOCRATS, THE CENTER, AND THOSE FANS OF ZARQAWI
National Review ^ | 01/25/05 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 01/25/2005 6:47:32 PM PST by steve dubya

Glenn Reynolds, writing at MSNBC, generously quotes TKS regarding the DNC Chair race. But more importantly, he wonders how much the left's ugly fringe — the folks who not only oppose Bush but dismiss elections in Afghanistan and Iraq as unimportant — is hurting the image of the entire Democratic Party.

He points to a column by Tom Frank, a New Republic writer-researcher, covering a "counter-inaugural" event:

The worst came with the final speaker, a woman by the name of Sherry Wolf, who is supposedly on the "editorial board of International Socialist Review." She talked, and talked, and talked; terms like "architects of the slaughter," "war criminal," and "Noam Chomsky" wafted about the room; and my eyes grew so bleary that I ceased taking notes. But then she brought up the insurgents in Iraq. Sure they were bad, she admitted: "No one cheers the beheading of journalists." But, she continued, they had a "right" to rebel against occupation. Then she read from a speech by the activist Arundhati Roy: "Of course, [the Iraqi resistance] is riddled with opportunism, local rivalry, demagoguery, and criminality. But if we were to only support pristine movements, then no resistance will be worthy of our purity." In sum, Wolf said, the choice boiled down to supporting occupation or resistance, and we had to support resistance.

So there it was. I even forgot about the Constitution Ball for a minute. Apparently, we were to view the people who set off bombs killing over 150 peaceful Shia worshippers in Baghdad and Karbala as "resistance" fighters. And the audience seemed entirely fine with this. These weren't harmless lefties. I didn't want Nancy Pelosi talking sense to them; I wanted John Ashcroft to come busting through the wall with a submachine gun to round everyone up for an immediate trip to Gitmo, with Charles Graner on hand for interrogation.

Obviously, this woman's cheering for Zarqawi doesn't represent all Democrats, or all liberals. But clearly she repels a good chunk of those who hear her... and how often do Democrats, other than those who write for The New Republic, denounce sentiments like that?

About as often as Muslims denounce terrorism - and mean it.

Prove it.

I would say she represents a clear majority of liberals. Maybe a 2/3s majority.

Maybe not in those exact words but the hope of us losing in Iraq represents a fearful number of them.

Kennedy, Boxer, Kerry and the rest may not "cheer" Zarqawi but their words and actions definitely encourage him.

The Democatic Senators are playing defense lawyer for the combatants at Gitmo, in the Senate!

Most libs are rooting AGAINST America, and have been doing so since the early 70's at least. Look at the voting records of Kerry, Kennedy et al. Against Defense, Against Intelligence, Against lower taxes. These guys despise Our Founding Fathers, open and free markets and are a Socialist menace.

I'm with John Thorton...

MIDI - SOUNDS OF SILENCE

Hello patriots, my friends…I have some bad news once again
You won't believe what they've been doing...our great nation they've been screwing

There’s a lesson…we cannot trust Democrats…sewer rats
We hear the sounds of treason

They all would sell their country out…of that, you should have no doubt
They would abdicate our freedom…it’s in their writing, you should read ‘em

There’s a lesson that we cannot trust the Democrats…they're sewer rats
We hear the sounds of treason

Hatred of the USA…they've been showing everyday
They disdain our Constitution…it's about time for retribution

There’s a lesson…we…cannot trust scumbag Democrats…they're sewer rats
We hear the sounds of treason

Incrementally they gain…it’s a plan that is insane
If they cannot be president...they hope we fail, that's evident

With defense, we can’t trust Democrats…(sewer rats)
We hear the sounds of treason

They want rule by the U.N…these are very evil men
Socialism is ideal…that’s the way these lefties feel

There’s a lesson, that we can no longer be trusting the damn Democrats…these sewer rats
We hear the sounds of treason

I certainly have come to understand how the oppression of blacks was justified in this country. The Dems and socialist counterparts are giving us all a crash history in how the worst events of mankind were justified and even accelerated. Whether it be from slavery, to mass murder or dictatorial regimes encouraged to attempt world dominance.

Congratulations Dems. You are now on the side of Saddam, Osama and Zarqawi. You must be proud.

Don't forget abortion, an analog to slavery. Everybody knows deep down that it is very wrong, but it's SO convenient....

"Obviously, this woman's cheering for Zarqawi doesn't represent all Democrats, or all liberals."

Judging from private conversations I have heard among liberals, I think she represents a lot of them. From what I hear, the "insurgents" are just rebelling against "the system" when they kill innocent civilians, cutting off people's heads is "part of their culture" and should be understood in that light, we are invading their country and they have a right to rebel, we are a country that is only 200 years old and how can we be so arrogant as to try and impose our culture on the 3000-year old civilization of Mesopotamia, etc., etc. And furthermore, we have the death penalty which makes us just as barbaric as Zarqawi.

Heh heh, nice tagline and comment. And yes, they are rapidly approaching the "...against all enemies, foreign and domestic." line that will trigger action. Actually they've probably already stepped over it, I'm just waiting for the next Jihad Johnny left wing version of Timothy McVeigh.
