On post #314, at the Scriptorium, you need to scroll down to 1/25/2005 for the article and those links.

Scroll down to comment #3 for some more links to our Pakistani buddy Hameed. I haven't checked the links yet I'm watching the Spurs game but maybe somebody can give us a head's up.

I wouldn't read much into the Delaware registration or address. A lot of planes are registered there relative to the state's population For example, 105 out of the 1600 or so Cessna 172Ps are registered in Delaware. Only 111 Cessna 172Ps are registered in our most populous state -- California.

There's a simple explanation for it --- Delaware has no state sales tax and is very reluctant to otherwise tax nonresidents. They are happy enough collecting registration fees. I wish New York were more like Delaware in that respect.

Maybe this is how our pilot, Christian Delgado-Gomez, got his even tho' he's still in the US and his visa has EXPIRED!! Check out all of the links on the sidebar and maybe some of our aviation experts can weigh in. CLICK HERE

I'm not an aviation expert, but I was very
happy to see this concerning Saudi Arabia.

"You will have to take the I20 to the the U.S. Embassy or Consulate nearest to you to apply for the Student Visa. You will also need to bring your Passport, Financial Statements, and proper identification. This is not an automatic process, so plan to present yourself favorably. If your Student Visa is denied the $1,000 deposit will be refunded."

Prior to 9/11, a Saudi travel agent could
obtain a visa for a client. It's nice to see
that is no longer true.

Thank you for your tireless efforts on this
thread. You have done a great job. I see
that I have a lot of catching up to do. ;o)

Thank you for the pings.

Looks like some more interesting info on our little buddy Hameed. I know that Gujrat is in Pakistan but all of the aviation info is Greek to me. Here's the link-

I think that's just his Pakistani pilots certificate, if it's the same Hammeed Afzal. Sounds like he worked as an airplane mechanic when he did his service in the Pakistani Air Force (I'm assuming that's what PAF means). I say "if" it's the same Hameed Afzal because the date of birth listed on that form is 4/7/63, which would have made him only 17 when Texas records show a marriage to Alyce Taylor. I doubt he would have graduated from aeronautical school by 17.

I don't think we have any proof that Hameed Afzal or his wife have done anything nefarious here. All we know is that they own a flight school and rented their plane to someone involved in smuggling illegal Chinese immigrants. The flight school was one of four that a convicted terrorist used to learn to fly. But if merely renting a mode of transportation to a drug trafficker or coyote or teaching a criminal to move a vehicle were a crime, Hertz, Avis and every driving school in the country would long be out of business. Hameed seems to be cooperating with the FBI and media. He hasn't been arrested or charged with anything.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. And I'm sure the FBI is constantly monitoring his and other flight schools for suspicious activity, anyway.

But the Chinese are our friends.. I mean we get cheap VCRs from them and everything.

Our government encourages the transport of American $$ and technology there with our tax dollars... Surely this MUST be an error.

"This is my first post so I hope I got it right."

As a rule, "posts" are planted much deeper in south Texas, the dirt is tamped firmer and the staples are hammered in until the barbed wire is tight enough that the wind hums, "On the road again" blowing over it,. But all in all it isn't a bad first post.

Oops-wrong thread- I just came over from Friday Silliness.

McALLEN

"Federal Agents on the Border on Alert"
Reported by Marco Gonzalez

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "JANUARY 28, 2005 - All federal law enforcement
agents along the border are on high alert. Sources say the Mexican
Gulf Cartel is targeting two FBI agents for execution.

Action 4 News has learned about an internal fax that was sent out by
the FBI's San Antonio division.

It warns local agents to take precautions because Mexican drug lords
could be hunting them down.

The alert went out Friday warning lawmen of the Gulf Cartel's alleged
intentions to kidnap two FBI agents and take them across the border
to be executed."
