Will they use "crapon dating" to determine the age of the contents the extract?

"The old toilets, locally referred to as long-drops.."
I have two Kohler 'Low Boys' aka 'Easy Riders'. Real comfortable, not unusual to go thru a reading of 'Gone With The Wind' or 'Exodus' in one sitting.

Well, as long as it fit, you'd be surprised what they disposed in latrines. Broken everyday items before the days
of plastic such as pottery, china, metal, etc.

During the fiasco known as "The Big Dig" in Boston, they shut down the project for a day so archaeologists could
retrieve the cr@p from an outhouse dating back to colonial days.

IIRC, that was $1.3M or $3.1M stoppage. But hey, a billion here, $15B there, for a leaking tunnel.

At least they got the stuff from ye olde outhouse.

There's no figure given for the NZ what I am inferring is interrupting work on the bypass.

Gotta build bypasses, you know.

Sniffing around old potty jes' has to require a government grant. These archaologists are probably excited because they found used condoms and tampons.

Goodness, if they have an obsession to

dig through poop . . .

I'm sure Shrillery and Billdo's house is full of it.

Probably a lot fresher!

Roman artifacts have been excavated from "dunnies" in England -- all sorts of odd stuff that went down the privy.

Get a hold of a copy of Mollie Harris's Cotswold Privies for a thorough history . . .

"Dunnie" by the way is short for "Dunniekin" or "Dinna ken" i.e. "I don't know" . . . the modest answer to "where are you going?" when headed for the "necessary", "down the garden", "reading room", or any of the other many euphemisms for the outdoor privy. Privy itself is a euphemism, from "privatus" meaning "private place."

BTW, after 75 years all the "stuff" has completely decomposed and all you've got is just particularly rich soil. We accidentally excavated one once with a backhoe, belatedly realized what it was when the old seats surfaced in the bucket . . . but it didn't smell.
