Now that's a real argument.

You and other supporters of Bush's speech would have far more credibility if you at least recognized the spitefulness of many of the responses on this thread.

Freedom is a wonderful thing, but can anyone really argue that Americans don't have enough of that already? In fact, what to do with that freedom seems to be the one thing that many Americans can't answer.

Freedom isn't an end to itself. It also isn't the US's responsibility to establish freedom throughout the world. That's a fool's task.

"We strive for peace and security, heartened by the changes all around us. Since the turn of the century, the number of democracies in the world has grown fourfold. Human freedom is on the march, and nowhere more so than our own hemisphere. Freedom is one of the deepest and noblest aspirations of the human spirit. People, worldwide, hunger for the right of self-determination, for those inalienable rights that make for human dignity and progress. 35
America must remain freedom's staunchest friend, for freedom is our best ally. 36
And it is the world's only hope, to conquer poverty and preserve peace. Every blow we inflict against poverty will be a blow against its dark allies of oppression and war. Every victory for human freedom will be a victory for world peace."

From :Ronald Reagan's second inaugural address.
Supporting and encouraging freedom and liberty is not a new idea..

I don't see how you can honestly say that to me.

I did recognize some of the comments on the thread as over-the-top.

That you don't know that and accuse me of not doing so is disgraceful. You clearly have not read all the comments and you clearly have no idea about what I have said on this subject, yet you feel free to mischaracterize away and, in the original post I responded to, make broadbrush generalizations about the thread that are wrong.

Again, you falsely portray what I have said, not to mention the fact that your "freedom" ramble seems to indicate an unfamiliarity with the speech in question,
and you only serve to show that my observation that you are not to be taken seriously was right on the money.

It is certainly not America's job to spread freedom. Howeever, it is our job to protect our country. Bush's call to spread freedom around the world is an attempt, first and foremost, to promote the security of our nation.
