Politics: Sen. Hillary Clinton's former finance director has been indicted for filing false reports on campaign fund-raising activities. Why are we not surprised?
As anyone who lived through the 1990s knows, the Clinton White House showed an unwillingness to play by the rules, especially in the artful practice of political fund raising.
Think back to Al Gore's "no controlling legal authority" excuse for making fund-raising phone calls from federal property while serving as vice president. Or to the apparent laundering of Clinton-Gore contributions at a Buddhist temple fund-raiser that resulted in the felony conviction of political operative Maria Hsia.
Think back also to the questions about Lippo Bank, run by one James Riady. He pleaded guilty to reimbursing Clinton campaign donors with foreign corporate funds.
Of course, then-Attorney General and Clinton crony Janet Reno refused to appoint a special prosecutor to probe the allegations. This, even though Justice Department investigator Charles LaBella recommended she do so after he looked into the scandals.
We're tempted to call former finance director David Rosen a bag man for Sen. Clinton, but we'd like to keep this on a higher plane.
Yet there's little doubt, if the allegations in the indictment are true, that Rosen deceitfully arranged for a bigger payoff for Mrs. Clinton's 2000 Senate campaign from a Hollywood tribute held to honor President Clinton and raise money for his wife.
Rosen reportedly listed contributions of only $400,000 to fund the event even though it cost more than $1.2 million. By underreporting the in-kind contributions, he was able to put more money in Hillary Clinton's campaign pocket.
We already know that laws were broken, because one event organizer, Aaron Tonken, is doing time for defrauding donors to the Clinton affair as well as other fund-raisers.
The question now is: Was Mrs. Clinton in any way complicit?
A public that could find her on the presidential ballot in 2008 deserves to know. It also deserves to be reminded of the fund-raising shenanigans that characterized her husband's administration.
It's more likely that voters won't hear much about Rosen's indictment, let alone what role Hillary Clinton may have played. Imagine, though, the coverage that the mainstream media would provide if there was even a scent of wrongdoing, let alone an indictment, involving a Republican fund-raiser.
The Clintons aren't exactly off-limits to the press, but they're still far from juicy targets that cranky conservatives represent.
He's going to have to be looking at some serious jail time before he gives up the goods on Hillary.
You mean the lovely wifey who put down American Museuum Council instead of the truth, American MUSLIM Council when she filed her fundraising information? That woman?
I can't even get up enough interest to follow this issue. If she didn't take a hit for hiding the Rose law firm billing records for years and lamely claiming they just showed up one day then this episode will have absolutely no effect.
She was 'baking cookies for her daughter'.

FRET NOT, FReeper Friend. When Bride of Beelzebubba got away with some things before was before the Pajamahadeen Posse hit critical mass!
Wish I still had your positive attitude about getting the Clintons. I was here when all the stuff was coming out about all the Clinton scandals. It was a roller coaster. One minute we thought, "We've got them!" and the next they were getting away with "murder".
Someday the true culprits are going to be had and that also goes for the ones behind the Clintons who are fronts for who knows what.

It all depends on what the definition of was, is!
I was surprised to see this on Yahoo, till I saw it was buried in the Financial page.
I agree. The new media will be all over Satan's Daughter, and it is going to be harder for her to hide.
No sitting Senator who ran in 2000, 2002, or 2004 has had their Finance Chairman indicted, except one, Hillary.
If my math is correct, that represents one in 100 when the Senate reconvenes.
Asked by Hannity on the TV show tonight if she was in trouble, Morris said sure but she is Houdini.
No doubt she has her writers working overtime on her new victim angle.
