Hmm, I just posted this wrong. I meant to give you all the specific reference. The report is at http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/cbs_report.pdf and the reference to Free Republic is at page 153 (as physically imprinted on the report) and accompanying footnote 85 (page 163 as Adobe Acrobat numbers the pages).
What was that you were telling me about pajamas?...
[E]very single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman. In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts. The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90s. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasnt used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80s used monospaced fonts. I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.8585 Harry MacDougald, Documents Suggest Special Treatment for Bush in Guard, Sept. 8, 2004, at http://freerepublic.com/focuslf-news/1210662/posts?q=1&&page=1
It's about time!!!!!
At a small prison in California back in the early 80s a sharp-eyed reporter spotted two trustees and a guard return from a shopping trip with beer; after the story appeared in the Herald Examiner the warden was fired.
"Attacks...mostly by bloggers with a conservative agenda"
Glass is half empty: seems that there is bias in the wording of the report.
If "conservatives" hadn't "attacked" the memos
the American public would have believed the report and forgeries.
See link at post #2
Okay, how telling is this? The report has this in its Table of Contents, referring to the new media expose' of the fraud:
IX. The Aftermath
A. General Observations
B. September 8-9 The Initial Attacks
"THE INITIAL ATTACKS" !!! They even find time to mention that most of these "attacks" are made by "bloggers with a" *gasp* "conservative agenda."
If CBS had put as much effort into researching the original story as they put into this report ... well, then they wouldn't be so biased, would they?
Thanks for finding and posting this.
This report is a good first step, and the terminations (by whatever means) of Mapes and Rather are likewise steps in the right direction, however, this saga is by no means over.
The next step should be criminal prosecutions. Mapes and Rather broadcast over state lines libel, slander, forged signatures, and counterfeit military orders.
Burkett should be prosecuted for libel, slander, forgery, and the illegal counterfeiting of military orders (all felonies).
Mapes and Rather should be prosecuted for wire fraud, libel, and slander.
After that, Burkett, Mapes, Rather, and CBS should be sued for civil damages.
In the meantime, Congress should debate and consider revoking CBS' federal license to broadcast.

Go Buckhead!
Go FR!
Salud!
But they are all still lying. (Surprise surprise!)
Mapes said Lockhart called her.......and Lockhart says Mapes called him. (He hesitated to take the call..yeah right!)
Rather still believes in the "story behind the documents".. and only has "vague recollectations" about some conversations cause he was hurrying off to Hurricane Frances?
Rather never heard of "Burkett's notoriety" before the story aired? Okayyyyy Dan......
I must have missed it. Who is the "Smith" person that Mapes kept emailing? I couldn't find a first name. I noticed the person referenced the "bushies" a lot.... Did anyone else catch who that was?
