The same website, paralumun.com, also talks about sexual slavery in the US. Moot point. Yes, it does happen, but it is not common at all. The girls working in bars are there by choice because they want to be. The laws concerning sex with minors in Thailand is very strict consisting of between 5 to 20 years in a Thai jail. A fate I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Thailand's Sex Industry

Is sexual tourism legitimate? The question is, of course, almost irrelevant. It exists. It has always existed. And the sex industry in Asia will continue to exist for the foreseeable future.
Nowhere else is it so open and prevalent. Manila, Bombay, Phuket - they have reputations -- reputations that are not undeserved. But even Amsterdam, with perhaps the most freewheeling redlight district in Europe, does not rival Bangkok because many of the rules and restrictions placed on clients in a European setting are not enforced in Asia.

Phuket is where the tsunami hit.
