I'm increasingly disturbed by the attention this tsunami event is getting. There were mud slides in India and Bangladesh killing 400,000 and more during the 90's and there was nothing like this for them.

Saddam's victims are dependent upon U.S. and the "coalition of the willing"--where is their sympathy from the world?

There certainly seems to be something of a disproportionate outpouring here. And now Clinton & Bush 41 are heading up our efforts? Good grief!

i agree, it's sad, but here is something i don't understand, what about the people killed in Rwanda, Sudan- shouldn't their stories get the same attention? Hotel Rwanda is getting a lot of attention, these days also, it's been praised as the best film of the year- where was Hollywood back then?

Vincent: Max, six billion people on the planet, you're getting bent out of shape cause of one fat guy.
Max: Well, who was he?
Vincent: What do you care? Have you ever heard of Rwanda?
Max: Yes, I know Rwanda.
Vincent: Well, tens of thousands killed before sundown. Nobody's killed people that fast since Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Did you bat an eye, Max?
Max: What?
Vincent: Did you join Amnesty International, Oxfam, Save the Whales, Greenpeace, or something? No. I off one fat Angelino and you throw a hissy fit.

Perhaps there is more of a response to this because it was so wide-spread and it affected different groups of people, not just one country or one ethnic group. Also, the many video clips make it more of a reality to the rest of the world than something that happened in a remote area with no video coverage, etc.

I agree that there should be more of an effort to compare the numbers lost to man-made events, including deaths due to the actions of despots such as Stalin, Hitler, Saddam, etc. Just as tragic, IMHO.

No, they most certainly are NOT.

"I'm increasingly disturbed by the attention this tsunami event is getting. There were mud slides in India and Bangladesh killing 400,000 and more during the 90's and there was nothing like this for them."

There were no vacationing western tourists killed in those mud slides, just natives, not so news-worthy for the hypocritical and hysterical MSM who are now politicizing this catastrophe.

If you have a bad feeling now then just wait to see what happens in Indonesia as our troops become confronted by Islamic militancy groups.
