Why the G-d thing? Has some liberal PC law been passed that I don't know about that states God can't be spelled out properly? Or is it some Jewish thing?
It's a Jewish thing.
Jewish tradition discourages writing the name of the Lord on anything that can be desecrated, so a letter is omitted out of deep respect.
