If truth be told, the Republican party has never been conservative. In decades past it was dominated by the the northeastern country club Rockefeller wing. Since Goldwater days these losers have been slowly pushed aside. Since then, there has been a long path towards a more Conservative party. This last election with 5 new conservative Senators was yet another step.

Your point to move to a truly conservative party is right on. That is, if you mean to make the Republican party more conservative as we move into the future.
