People this is bad very very bad.

People are being kept out of tall buildings here in Kuala Lumpur with some being evaquated.

Like I said, I have never heard of an earthquake here. No one has.

There's nowhere on earth where 8.5s are a routine occurance.....

But there was an estimated Mag 9 quake off Sumatra in 1833, and a Mag 8.5 off Sumatra in 1861, so they do happen there; it's tough to guestimate magnitudes before 1900.

This earthquake is the strongest earthquake recorded on the planet in 40 years. This is serious crap.

The death toll is going to be heavy, mainly from tsunamis.
